Hello fellow EWF's! The last time I updated this, was on 11-24-2008. As a result of my Wife having first been first diagnosed with breast Cancer, then having had a Mastectomy on her Right Breast - folowed by an unbelieveable additional diagnosis of having both Lung and Bone Cancer, I haven't been very active, lately. However, I have finally updated this list, as of today, increasing the total from 1250 to 1267. The new additions, along with their ranking on this list, are as follows: 257 - The Fear By Lilly Allen 344 - The Climb By Miley Cyrus 363 - Troubled Land By John Cougar Mellencamp 371 - Second Chance By Shinedown 1255 - Sober By Pink 1256 - Divine Daze Of Deathless Delight By Donovan 1257 - Good Happens By Britiny Black 1258 - Crusin' The Ohio By Matt King 1259 - Light On By Dave Cook 1260 - Gotta Be Somebody By Nickelback 1261 - Tom Sawyer By Rush 1262 - Belongs To You By Emerson Drive 1263 - I Will Be By Leona Lewis 1264 - Sissy's Song - By Alan Jackson 1265 - Shutting Detroit Down By John Rich 1266 - Photograph By Def Leopard 1267 - Yellow Star By Donovan Again, while I fully realize everyone has their own taste, and will certainly not agree with everything I have listed, nor in the Ranking, I hope that everyone does find it interesting. Also, if you have an IPOD (Mine currently has 10, 328 Songs on it,) this may serve to remind you of some songs you might have forgotten about, or just give you some ideas of songs to purchase on I-Tunes. For some, looking it over may even bring back a sense of Nostalgia. From the List, it should be obvious that I Love ALL TYPES OF MUSIC from Rock, Country, Alternative, Folk, Heavy Metal, Classical, Old and New Music - From as far back as 60-Years ago - AND MUSIC AS RECENT AS TODAY. To me, there is really no such thing as Country, Rock, Alternative, Folk, Top-40, Easy Listening, Jazz, Classical, Modern, Old Fashioned, etc...THERE ARE ACTUALLY ONLY TWO TYPES OF MUSIC - Good Music and Bad Music. I found songs that are great and Ridiculous from all Genre's and from all years. I would also mention, that some of the newer songs ranked towards the lower end of the list, are still subject to change - as I have occasionally moved some up, in subsequent updates, after they have had more of a chance to grow on me. At any rate, I do hope everyone at least, finds it interesting. Steve B. P.S. BE SURE TO LOOK TOWARDS THE END OF THE SONG LIST, TO SEE AN EXPLANATION OF HOW I ACTUALLY WENT ABOUT SELECTING AND RANKING THESE SONGS IN ORDER.

Wow, that is impressive. Your mind has an amazing capacity,.most people would not be capable of that and if they were, it would take an eternity. We have a lot of the same favorites although I would move some up and down on your list. Not enough Beatles songs, IMO. Not near enough U2 songs, in fact, I didn't find the first one until #858 and it wasn't one I'd have picked. But it's your list! I love Loreena McKennitt but no Mystics Dream? Maybe I missed it. Evanescence *thumbs up* Many other greats, amazing list!! You lost points for every Nickelback song, though. Sorry! LOL

Thanks Earthgirrl, for the very nice feedback! I sorry to hear you don't like Nickleback. They certainly have songs I don't like, but then they also have songs I love. Especially 3-of them (On the List - LOL) I am especially in love with the words/message contained in their song, "If Everyone Cared." I also love the music and the way it is performed. Although U-2 only has 2-Songs currently on my List, there are numerous U-2 Songs that I absolutely love, which are not on the List, as well. I am in love with Loreena McKennitt's "Mystic Dreams." Although, it has not yet made my list. As I continue to expand it, that song will eventually appear. It seems we do have a mutual admiration for Evanescence! They are truly a remarkable and brilliant group. As of the time I made my last update, I had not yet heard any of the songs from AATS. I can assure you my next update, will have several on it. I can also tell you my two favorites from AATS are: (1) Ophelia, and (2) Strong Black Vine. Ophelia will most likely make it in my Top-20. (That is an extraordinarily complex song which is also sung/performed in a beauiful manner. Steve B.

If Nickelback had a different lead singer, I might not feel the way I do. There's just something about his voice that does not allow me to listen to even give them a chance. It grates on me. *shrugs*
I am partial to U2, next to Tori (although separated by worlds musically) they are my favorite band of all time. If I made a list, they'd be on it about 150 times!
I think Amy Lee has one of the most beautiful, haunting voices I've ever heard. And that range! I love the mix of her voice with the band. Doesn't seem like they get enough credit overall.
As far as AATS, it's funny...Ophelia is in the category with 3 other songs I haven't fallen for yet. I know that could change at any moment, though! Lyrically, I think it's beautiful but the sound hasn't grabbed me yet.
SBV, Starling, WTE, AATS and Lady In Blue (the ending to that song is amazing!!) are getting a lot of play right now.
I will look forward to your updates..great work!

I actually like Chad Kroger's Voice. Of course I think Bob Dylan is the 2nd Greatest Singer that Ever Lived (Tori, of course is Number-1) and a lot of people can't stand his voice either.
Amy Lee has a professionally trained voice - And yes, it is one of the most beautiful voices in existence. However, when it comes to who I believe has the Most Beautiful Female Voice of all time, THAT WOULD BE HAYLEY WESTENRA, hands down.
For my next Major Post of AATs, I will go ahead and provide an Interpretation of "Ophelia." The depth and scope of those Lyrics are absolutely incredible. For me, I AM ALSO IN LOVE WITH THE WAY SHE SINGS IT.
I also think "Lady In Blue" was done as a tribute to the late great Jazz Singer, "Billie Holiday." She goes to great lengths to actually sing it in exactly her style and voice. Also, the Title "Lady In Blue," is very closely related to a Book About Billie Holiday" entitled 'Lady Sings The Blues." Additionally, Tori has, in the past, performed a very famous song by her, entitled "Strange Fruit."
Thank you once again for the feedback and the very nice words.
Your Friend,
Steve B.

Steve,
A big thank you for the Hayley Westenra mention. I had not heard of her before and I found some of her music on youtube. All I can say is WOW! Amazing..voice of an angel.
I'll look forward to more of your interpretations as well.
Take care, Karin

Fantastic Earthgirrl! I am begining to think you and I are kindred souls! You have great taste!!(LOL) I have never heard any one, not Charlotte Church or anybody else for that matter, who could come close to the Voice of Hayley Westenra. Many Music experts actually claim that she is the only human being to have a truly PERFECT PITCH VOICE. I agree with that!! By the way, as promised, I Posted My Interpretation of My Favorite Song on AATS 'Ophelia." If you get a chance, I would love for you to check it out (Found On Liquid Diamonds) and let me know what you think! Steve B.

Aw, [[Steve]]
I actually got teary-eyed hearing her sing Ave Maria..she really is breathtaking.
I will go read your post on Ophelia.
I also like that you included Lily Allen's new song 'The Fear' It's such a catchy song but it's also an important one. I blogged about it on my FB because it corresponded so well to my irritation with all the junk mail I receive. We are a society of massive consumption, to a fault. It is a very real fear for our future generations. Great song.

Hello Earthgirrl,
Although, I have never been a big fan of Lilly Allen in the past - while I never disliked her, I also never really got into her either. At any rate, I found the lyrics to this particular song "The Fear," to be particularly interesting.
While, I’m sure she does not possess the Genius of a Tori Amos, who almost always writes songs with exceptionally deep cryptic and hidden messages - usually having multiple meanings, providing an exciting intellectual journey of constant discovery for the discerning mind; while simultaneously offering the less discerning a simple meaning - by taking the words literally - along with the obvious enjoyment of her amazing voice and music - that all of us can readily appreciate.
However, in this song, I can certainly see where she could be intending a totally opposite message from the obvious - when looking beneath the surface of the lyrics. Thus, on the surface, it would appear to be simply a song which puts material wealth and fame above everything else . However, I suspect it has a more intelligent and subtle meaning for the discerning; in that she (in this case using herself as an example for what is actually happening to all of society), thus "WE”, are all being programmed to discard the values of Families over the Glamorous Life (Quote: "Life's about film stars AND LESS ABOUT MOTHERS); thus losing sight of what’s REAL (What's truly important, from what is not). Or she could be SIMPLY saying that inasmuch as this is true - we need to wake-up and start doing the same thing.
We also see another choice between a simplistic straightforward reading or a more hidden and deeper one, in the lines: (It's all about Fast Cars AND PASSING EACH OTHER.) On the surface she seems to be saying that everyone is so caught up in getting more than someone else (Passing each other) that you are foolish to try and fool yourself into thinking otherwise - and therefore learn to adjust and advance or else fall behind.
However, going beneath the surface, she appears to making a contrapuntal point, through an allegory designed to demonstrate an antipathy towards the way society has adopted such values.
Here are the Lyrics:
I want to be rich and I want lots of money I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny I want loads of clothes and fucking loads of diamonds I heard people die while they are trying to find them
I’ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless ‘Cuz everyone knows that’s how you get famous I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror I’m on the right track yeah I’m on to a winner
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore When we think it will all become clear ‘Cuz I’m being taken over by The Fear
Life’s about film stars and less about mothers It’s all about fast cars and passing each other But it doesn’t matter cause I’m packing plastic And that’s what makes my life so fucking fantastic
And I am a weapon of massive consumption And its not my fault it’s how I’m program to function I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror I’m on the right track yeah I’m on to a winner
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore When we think it will all become clear ‘Cuz I’m being taken over by The Fear
Forget about guns and forget ammunition Cause I’m killing them all on my own little mission Now I’m not a saint but I’m not a sinner Now everything is cool as long as I’m getting thinner
I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore When we think it will all become clear ‘Cause I’m being taken over by fear."
I also suspect she is aiming this squarely at the Commercial Aspect of the Music Industry, similar to Tori’s approach in dumping Sony – condemning the attitude that material wealth is the ultimate achievement – therefore making it acceptable to disregard that which would otherwise seem important – in return for always striving to surpass everyone else. This, I think is also a statement (Her Swan Song, so to speak) saying why she has opted to leave the Music Business – and start a new career.
By the Way, I also love Ave Maria by Hayley Westenra!
Your Friend,
Steve B.

I'm not a particular fan of hers, either..in fact I only have the one song on my Ipod. Never picked up on her sound before.
I didn't know she was going in another direction. Kind of a short lived music career. I liked watching her sing with Ellen in the bathroom! I still think the song has major significance that points out what has become of our fast paced society and excess, and how it's taking away from core values. The fear is the awareness that it's happening and it's not the right path for us as a society to be on. It's likely that message will get across to many but also likely some will take the lyrics literally and think that's what it's all about. I was reading a post on a young relatives FB from a friend who commented that she was going to Miami to "hang out with the beautiful people." There is so much emphasis put on looks so her remark didn't surprise me really, it's just kind of sad.

I agree "earthgiirl." It is sad that looks play such a dominate role in our Society. I also agree about your commentary on Lilly Allen's song constituting a statement of how our fast pace society is diminishing what has traditionally stood as our core values. As for the listening public, I sadly believe the vast majority will simply take the song on Face Value (Literally), instead of looking at it's many subtle nuances. Steve B.

Thanks Ophelia30 for those wonderful Remarks. The reason you don't see any Songs from Tori's Recent AATS CD, is because my last update, was just prior to those songs being released. I do plan on doing a new Update soon - which will definitely have several Songs from the AATS CD on it. By the way, the Song "OPHELIA," being my Favorite on AATS, will almost certainly be either in, or close to, My top-10. Steve B.
