I have been thinking of (and wanting to) dye my hair red for a really loooooong time, even before I got into T. I think red hair looks gorgeous on women like T, Rose McGowan, Miranda from sex and the city, Isla Fisher, and Julianne Moore.
I have very pale skin and a typical english rose complexion. My natural hair colour is a dark mousey brown, but I dye it a dark chocolate colour. I think a deeper shade of red would suit my colouring, kinda like the shade T is modelling on the AATS album artwork, but I'm worried it would look terrible?!
Does anyone else here dye their hair? I'm thinking maybe I should get it done professionally?
I've been brunette and blonde and I want to try being a redhead!

I've been dying my hair for years. Right now i've used Cashmere Red twice and I have one more packet sitting in the cupboard but it's been all kinds of colors in the brown/red departement.
I always dye my hair myself, but if you're unsure I guess you can have someone do it for you
The first time I used the Cashmere Red it didn't get everywhere so I had to re-do it. Those are the risks when you do it yourself but my sister once had the same problem when she had it done by a hairdresser
I must say though, red is a bitch to get out completely after you start.. Maybe try a non permanent version first?

i have a very pale irish/english complexion, and have been dying my hair red for years.
at first i did the less natural reds, deep cherries, that kind of thing... it worked pretty well. i always got the feeling that it made me look a little paler than I actually was, but for the most part it was good.
now i dye my hair a more natural, strawberry blonde red. I'm most comfortable with that.
I think you should go for it. if you don't like it, then i suggest getting Color Oops which you can find in any walgreens/cvs... it gets rid of the color perfectly. And it's really nice to have something to fall back on if you hate the color. But you should definately give it a try!

I've been a bottle-red since I was 13 (except this Fall I dyed it back to my natural color. Blech.) and I have a complexion like yours and very dark brown hair naturally. I've always done it at home. The one time I went to the salon, my roots came out orange!
Red is a PITA to maintain, but darker red isn't so bad since as it fades, you still have a lot of red in your hair. I like Feria dye, though some say it dries their hair out. It doesn't dry mine and the reds are amazing and intense (in a good way, not a clown way).
I also use(d) Aveda's Madder Root conditioner. It's tinted red and using it a couple times a week (leaving it in for around 5 minutes) really helps to prevent fading between coloring.

Thanks guys! Very helpful! I think I'm just gonna go for it. I don't have a problem dying it myself I was just worried how the colour would cover my current dyed dark brown colour. But a semi perm colour is a good idea, Shireen. I think I'll go for quite a dark auburn red and then see how it works out.
Jessie - your colour is gorgeous! That's what I want to slowly build up to!
I'm gonna do it in the next couple of weeks when I go home from uni (just incase it goes drastically wrong and I need to hide away! ) I'll post photos when its done!

I do mine every 2 weeks BECAUSE i am a natural blonde...so my hair grows fast and i look like i have a blonde halo after a few weeks, REd is one of the heaviest dyes...so it washes out fast...i have been a redhead now for almost 12 years!
Well, I've been colouring my hair reddish since about 1998, I went thru various shades tho... I always use henna based colourings which have the minimum of toxic stuff in them. But I need to colour it every two weeks as well, I'm also blond. I use the line: 'Henna Plus'. It's very soft on your hair. The last few years I used: 'Warm Red', but a month or two ago I went over to 'Red-Purple-Brown'... but next time I'll colour it I'll colour it 'Reddish Black'. I want a darker red...

Hehe gorgeous! I think that's the kinda shade I'm aiming for, I don't want it too light because my hair is quite dark at the moment. But we will see! I'm doing it next week so I'll let you all know how it goes!
