I just have this on my mind,
Music is such an amazing part of our culture. Everyone has a genre that really speaks to them. After yesterday's passing of Michael (a genius in his own right), I feel the need to describe what music means to me. We have this forum here to connect with fellow Tori fans from around the globe and eventually for me y'all have become very dear friends, that i treasure everyday. Anyway, music has always been in my life, since an early age. It didn't really have a big impact until the age of seven when I first saw and heard Madonna. I remember watching half way through her "Express Yourself" video, and thinking, "who is this woman?" Her confidence and her control and expression. I had to get my hands on everything Madonna. "Vogue"was next and I knew this woman would be the inspiration I was looking for. She may have been offensive at times, but she did it in a way to make people really open their minds and think of issues. That and she isust a woman who is having a blast at living her life, while saying "men can do this, so can us girls" and had no hesitation at that. The way she constantly goes through different re-inventions revealing herself in different layers and keeping it fresh. Not to mention she built her "empire" from the ground up and markets herself is so amazing. As a gay man she has given us so much love and support and helped me come out.
Anyway getting off track here, Tori Amos has opened new doors for me. I discovered her in the "Choirgirl" stage but didn't really get into her til "SLG".The idea of showing a new form of sensuality. She can be poised and yet "grind that piano bench" while playing a Zepplin cover . Her honesty in music and ways to connect with her sonically, you can feel what she is conveying, even if you don't understand the lyrics.
My main point at this post is the fact that Madonna and Tori are 2 completely different women and the way they covey a point 2 completely different ways awesome! Music gives us serenity, and grooviness, yet never looses it's sex appeal. For me I love alternative, pop, electro, dance, rock, I connect with them. Husband here loves RnB and hip hop and Alternative. ALL HE PLAYS ALL DAY LONG! I get sick of it. But he connects with the emotions it coveys to him. I can't but he can't with mine. Music is amazing. We all don't have the same "favorites" but you see, here we can get along and introduce new artists or old ones to others. Many here don't get Madonna, and IT'S OKAY. If everyone loved her then she would lose some kind of initial spark. There's some artists that u may like, but I don't understand. Not meaning the're bad, but you see something different than how I see it.
Music is eternal. and what a love we have in it. Michael's music will live on forever. He maybe gone but it is our job to keep his imprint still alive. Music is the fingerprint in our lives.
