1st, thanks for reading my blabber.
In 1994, the summer before my senior year of high school, I participated in a two week university study of Box Turtle behavior with other kids from all over my home state of Michigan. Every day, we were sent trudging in pairs through neck-high fields and swampy woods. We wore tall black rubber boots and used a radio receiver with a big hand-held antenna and some 1960s-style headphones to track down our assigned turtles. It was actually pretty fun. My partner was a girl named Corrie. On one hike back to the rendezvous point, she sang Silent All These Years. She had a beautiful voice. She sang it again for our little tribe of turtleseekers, riding on milk crates back to the college in the back of a cargo van. I’d never heard Tori Amos’ voice or piano and I was already in love with her music. I come to this site at this late date because I just got my first decent computer with hs internet earlier this year.
I'd accumulated a few boots from friends over the years, but I had no idea how much high quality live audio was available from this and other websites. I am amazed and grateful. There are so many kind, generous, patient people in this community helping to spread the music I love best! And what?! Not for personal profit? No, just because they love and respect Tori and her music and they're excited about sharing it. Bliss. Thank you to all sharers.
I live in Ottawa County, Michigan. It's a mostly Dutch and/or conservative Christian Reformed community...not my thang. I write poems and I work as a baker on a fellow poet's family farm. It's a very cool place - organic, sustainable, beautiful and full of living (and sometimes dying) energy.
I've been to these shows:
1996-06-02 Grand Rapids, MI
1996-09-27 Ann Arbor, MI
1998-11-01 Mount Pleasant, MI
2001-11-20 San Diego, CA early
2001-11-20 San Diego, CA late
2003-03-12 Grand Rapids, MI
2009-08-08 Detroit, MI
I’ve been poking around this site for a few days - impressive and exciting! I hope over the next weeks and months to fill in some of the holes in my collection and to learn how to help pass the music along to the next New Bee. I’m looking forward to getting to know you, participating in whatever discussions happen and sparking a few conversations of my own. Thanks to all those who’s hard work has created and sustained The Afterglow and the online Tori community. You’re the best! - Nathan
