REM To Work With PJ Harvey?
News about the follow up to REM’s 2001 ‘Reveal’ album starts to emerge as their manager talks about the new record, and the possibility of a collaboration with and esteemed alt rock chanteuse PJ Harvey.
According to the band’s manager, band members Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and Peter Buck are engrossed in the recording of the album at their studios in Vancouver, and hope to have the record complete and in the shops “In 12 months maximum”.
The interview appears in French music magazine ‘Les Inrockuptibles’ and goes on to say that the trio are “on form individually and collectively” in very good health, very motivated and very excited about their new LP, which they intend to record in a series of cities “To vary the pleasure.” The material is also touted as being rougher and darker than most of ‘Reveal’.
He also confirmed rumours that REM would be undertaking a huge tour in 2003, but wouldn’t be drawn to confirm any gossip about whether or not they would be playing the Glastonbury Festival next year
The manager also mentions about the group collaborating with acclaimed guitarist Joe Gore on some songs during the sessions, comments which have prompted much speculation about the possibly of Gore’s old sparring partner PJ Harvey participating on the record.
