Haha, yes it is true. We often just speak about female artists. ;D My all time favourite singer/songwriter is Tom Waits, I adore him and have all his albums. There is no artist in "popular music" who comes close to him, for me. I also love Jeff Buckley, who left us much too soon, Freddie Mercury , Johnny Cash, Brian Molko (tho I more dig on the early stuff of Placebo, especially "Without you I am nothing"), David Bowie (special periods, not all his stuff), Mike Patton, Will Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billy, the tiny and wonderful Ibrahim Ferrer and John Lennon. There is surely lots more, but it is impossible it all comes up my mind now. Lots of people on my list are already dead, tho!

Wow... Everyone's saying the same names. No Paul Weller or Hendrix? Nick Drake? BB King? Chris Robinson? Ben Harper? Richard Ashcroft? Howie Day? Guy Garvey? Rob Harvey? Fran Healy? Chris Martin? Devandra Banhart? David McCabe? Tom Petty? Crispin Mills? Edward Kowalczyk? Ryan Adams? Joel Pott? Horace Andy? 3D? James Skelly? Lee Mavers and John Power? And countless others (yeh, i got tired of thinking of names and double checking spellings ). Has anyone mentioned Van Morrison? I even resisted mentioning people who i know will raise people's eyebrows around here like the Gallagher brothers, Tim Burgess (no relation before anybody asks - not that i know of anyway ), or Damon Gough. There's a vocal style for everyone in all these names. C'mon guys, do the male part of the world's population some justice. ;D

afterthought: Johnny Cash Ronnie VanZant Paul McCartney John Lennon Mike Patton Dave Mustaine James Hetfield Ed Kowalczyk Trent Reznor Sting
There's really too many to mention. But those are my faves.

I wayyy prefer girls and pianos. Very few men can do the same thing with their guitars.
Jon Bon Jovi - ah yes!!!
And a singer called Paul Brady that my Dad used to listen to. His voice is comforting.

Paul Dempsey from Aussie band, Something For Kate, has a gorgeous voice. I was trying to find something more representative but there's not much on YouTube to choose from. Here's a clip if you are interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXPxnLBzXkwMark Lanegan has a hauntingly wonderful voice. Check out this clip of him singing "The River Rise". Beautiful. (Footage is of Kurt Cobain, it was done for a Nirvana tribute). www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HRNlRX6StIAnd FRANTI . Jump around and get happy. "How you feeeling??" Michael Franti is peace on earth. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqBzW5xoEg4

I really liked it... he has an icredibly soothing voice. I quite liked the song... lyrics especially. YEs. This song is from the -87 album called "Secrets of the Beehive" (pretty Tori-like name). The album is extremely fascinating. His lyrics surely are worth paying attention for and of course the way he delivers them. The Boy with the Gun
He knows well his wicked ways A course of bitterness A grudge held from his childhood days As if life had loved him less Reading down his list of names He ticks them one by one He points the barrel at the sky Firing shots off at the sun
”I’m the law and I am the king I am the wisdom, listen to me sing”
He carves out the victim’s names In the wooden butt of the gun He leans well back against the tree He knows his kingdome’s come He’ll breathe a sigh self satisfied The work is in good hands He shoots the coins into the air And follows where the money lands
”I’m the law and I am the king I am the wisdom, listen to me sing”
He pauses at the city’s edge Of hellfire and of stone He summons up the devil there To give him courage of his own He’ll free the sinners of deceit They’ll hear his name and run His justice is his own reward Measured out beneath the sun
”I’m the law and I am the king I am the wisdom, listen to me sing”
And my name’s on the gun
The work is just began By the boy with the gun Mother and Child
Shadows form knights and pawns Upon the squares Blood is drawn up from the well Secret signs brought the crime Right to your door An innocent guilty as hell
Oh, the cot is open wide Damp with milk and honey Gone the mother and the child In Jesus name
Oh, the cot is open wide Damp with milk and honey Gone the mother and the child In Jesus name
Should they be waiting there On my return I may run into their arms Walking on a razor’s edge Unconcerned Game is lost again I’ll never learn [/center] Reason for Editting: ...

OOF!! The second set of lyrics hit me like a sledgehammer... I lost custody of my kids eight years ago, and I really related to them. I will definitely check out more of this artists' work. Lyrics are so important, you know? Sometimes they save an entire song for me. You don't have a link or an mp3 you can share for "Mother and Child", do you ?

But songs can be sung/interpret with a different emotional value, so the delivering of the lyrics is the most important thing for me. I don't know any sites, but I do have this cd.
