Or at least seen an edited version where all but a few seconds of footage from their City of Manchester Stadium gigs was removed (and even that has footage from what looks like an Irish gig cut into it). It was shown on tv over here, somewhat oddly just before the Manchester cinema previews.
There are loads of clips all over the net if you do a quick search for the name of the movie (or you can find links over at http://www.oasisinet.com). In fact a lot of clips are of things which were edited out of the UK tv showing. Actually i think i saw the whole UK tv edit up on YouTube a while back if you want to get a fuller idea of what it's like.
The movie is really good, and i'd recommend it even to non-fans simply due to how funny it can be. I mean it starts with Noel doing a radio interview where the presenters babble away in their native language and suddenly shout out "And a big welcome to Mr Liam Gallagher!" - cue Noel looking around the studio with a WTF? expression since he's the only member of the band there. I really wouldn't want to be the guy to call Noel Liam, really. ;D
I can only imagine how Noel's interviews are going over there in Australia... There's a clip in the docu from an Aussie gig where he says to the crowd "So you qualified for the World Cup then, eh?" The crowd cheers. "Which is quite ironic now you're shit at cricket..." Crowd boos. He says they can boo as much as they want and points out that he actually hates cricket but said it because he knows it "does [their] heads in". Then he goes "Aren't you shit at rugby now too? Aren't you shit at everything? But good at football? ...Apparently." There's a pause. "Is there anyone here from Scotland?" A few cheers. "Now you ARE shit at cricket! Feel free to join in at any point." Goes into 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. ;D
The interviews and live acoustic sessions Noel's been doing recently have been amazing. I managed to record the Toronto and Paris sets (the latter of which you can actually watch >HERE< - although it'll only work in IE since it's an MSN thing), but missed the Manchester one since it was kept really quiet and my mate didn't tell me about it until it had finished on the radio. I found some mobile phone footage from the Manchester acoustic set online tho (and it sounded like there were some real idiots in the audience sadly :. And there was a live session/interview for AOL which i also have and has just Noel on his own with an acoustic doing some insanely good versions of a few songs, and it's really good quality recordings too (in fact Noel's recently mentioned they could do a release with stuff from this little acoustic tour him and Gem have been doing, since it's all been recorded). And as he keeps pointing out, ironically only two of the songs he's been playing are actually from the recent 'Best Of' album.
His interviews have been unbelievably funny. As has a lot of his comments to people in the audience at the gigs (one girl in Manchester got a bit of stick from him for going to the toilet as soon as he started Wonderwall ;D). Incidentally, his current version of Wonderwall is by far my favourite - he's kind of crossed the Oasis original and Ryan Adams' version, and the song sounds all the better for it! The versions of 'It's Good (To Be Free)' (one of my all time fave b-sides) and 'Slide Away' are fantastic as well.
Okay i'm babbling a bit. ;D It's just it's been a really good Oasis period recently, and it kind of came out of nowhere since little of this was originally planned (in fact Noel says the first thing he said to Gem was "Don't tell Liam what we're doing - then he'll want to come along and it'll just be like we're on tour again!", and he's still going around telling people that Liam doesn't have a clue these acoustic gigs have been going on ;D). Seeing Noel playing an acoustic guitar live again for the first time in years has been something special alone. That he actually re-worked a lot of the songs (and in some cases managed to improve them even) is something i'd have said would have been an unthinkable possibility just six months ago.
It's been a nice early xmas gift for Oasis fans...
Ah! Whoever's blog that is needs to put up the show at some point. Not that i'd nab it or anything... The sound quality of the video they put up was pretty good, a real pity it wasn't the whole song (cos i'd have recorded it ;D) and the video wasn't in synch with the sound (um, cos i'd have downloaded it ;D).
Sounds like it was a good show. I wish Noel would change the setlist about a bit more (at the start of these shows he was still moving things about a bit and trying different things, but the last few have all been identical setlists - and he can't blame Liam for that like he usually does this time ;D), but it's a damn fine setlist regardless. I mean lets be honest, i'd give my right leg to have got to one of these shows. Well maybe not in reality, but i'd give it in spirit.
Don't get what that person who moaned in the comment thread was on though. I don't think they quite understood what these gigs were about if they were complaining about the length only being just over an hour. Nor did they realise how special a gig they were at - "workman like" and "going through the motions" are the last things Noel and Gem have been during these gigs! I haven't seen Noel so relaxed and clearly enjoying himself for a very long time. The video showed enough for me to tell that show was no different. If someone got to one of these gigs and came away with those complaints then they simply didn't deserve to be there in the first place (and i'll eat every word off the screen if they can genuinely point to any Oasis show where so many songs were totally re-worked, which makes a mockery of their complaints instantly). Also, if it followed the same format as everywhere else the tickets for these shows aren't available to buy - only be given or won in competitions. So i'm guessing the $80 wasn't the actual ticket price, but the price whoever they bought the ticket from sold their's on at. So Noel should play an extra 30mins or so because you were stupid enough to pay $80 to see someone you clearly don't actually like? Yeh, okay. Nob.
Sorry, i'm beginning to sound like Sarah when someone says something slightly negative about Tori aren't i?
Here are a couple more videos. First up, ‘Wonderwall’ then ‘Strawberry Fields Forever.’
Looks like i missed them by a day. Oh well, i've been so spoiled by the amount of coverage i've been able to see from this little tour that it's not the end of the world. And i recently found out that the Manchester session is going to be repeated by the radio station that aired it live (YAY!). Although they're airing it on bloody xmas day of all the times they could have chosen (BOO!). Given that i'm normally down the road at my mum's eating xmas dinner right at the time they'll be putting it on, i can see this xmas dinner may be a little different than usual...
