Hmm, I have to go with The Stone Roses. They really only have one good album, but damn is it good!
Let's stay in England...

Radiohead... just 'cos their older work = out this world. These days, I think I would pick Muse over the current Radiohead... Sinéad O'Connor or Suzanne Vega

I like a couple of Suzanne Vega oldies (Luka, Tom's diner) but SINEAD WINS all the way!!!!!!!!!!!

Err... wait! I was accidently looking at the first page of this thread assuming it was the last one, and so I was replying to Kurt. I am so lame. Anyway, White Stripes. Anything is better than the crappy music U2 makes - with those horrible vocals of Bono. There, I said it. I hate U2 with all my heart. Paul McCartney or John Lennon?

MACCA!!
Sorry, for that loud response. There is a long and emotional argument going on at another forum I frequent about the relative value of Paul and John as solo artists. That issue conjures up reactions nearly on par with religious fervor in many people. For me it is McCartney hands down. Let's be honest, they both had ups and downs, and both have made albums that can only be described as turds. However, McCartney has had not only more peaks (as one would expect since his career as a solo artist is now nearly 4X that of John), but also a higher percentage of peaks to valleys. I celebrate both of their solo catalogs but I have to give the edge to Paul.
how about some 80s cheese

I have no idea who either of them are, so Mano Negra cuz it's in spanish. The Psychedelic Furs or Echo and the Bunnymen

OK this one is tough! I have to go with Echo and the Bunnymen, since I see "The Killing Moon" as the greatest specimen of that wonderful 80s gothic-psychedelic stuff that I can't get enough of. The Furs have some great stuff too... ...BTW I'm glad I'm not the only one that Saar stumped with that last post...I'll have to go find some tracks on last.fm or something...I feel like less of a music nerd for not knowing either band! Let's do the battle of the 80s cult bands: XTC vs. The Church

(I'm SO surprised neither of you knew The Levellers or Mano Negra!!! Wow... Both bands I more or less grew up with. Dunno if you'll like them, they're very folk-rock-world type of bands...)

Come to think of it, The Levellers do sound familiar....but you know how my memory is girl! I pick The Church. "Under The Milky Way" is one of my all time fave 80's song. "Sometimes when this place gets kinda empty".... Björk or PJ Harvey
