and why? PoltergeistThis movie scared the living shit out of me as a kid. My mom, bro and I used to share a one room apartment, so there was no hiding ANYWHERE come movie time. I'd try not to watch, and try to hold my ears shut with my fingers and cry silently . Mom would tell me to just hide under the covers and go to sleep . Revisiting the movie as a desensitized(sp?) teenager, I fell in love. I watch it every chance I get. This is the best horror/thriller for me. You don't see the 'bad guy' but you know evil is present. It isn't predictable, it's extremely entertaining and it serves it's purpose. I still find that even though this movie was made in '82, the graphics are pretty damn awesome. The Exorcism of Emily Rose This is the only most recent movie to really scare me. It's not your typical horror movie if you will. I grew up Catholic, and know a bit about theology enough to understand what was going on. Suffice it to say, I try to never ever stay awake (if I'm alone)around 3am(the witching hour) to this day. This is the type of movie that stays with you for weeks. Well, it did for me. I've only seen it once and I'm in no rush to see it again. I'll add more, but right now my lunch is getting cold!Reason for Editing: greasy fingers are not good for typing

I loooooove horror films Nice choices btw A few of mine are: Halloween (none of those awful sequels please, the original only! ) This is just one of those classic horror films, everything about it is scary, the mood, the pacing, the music (which I adore btw). The story is simple enough & pretty standard fare in horror films (though I believe this was a big influence on the surge of slasher horror films that have been made since so that gives it extra cool points ) but the thing I really love about it is that you never really know why Michael is going around killing people, they never filter his scariness by explaining every little detail about his motvies or the things that led him to what he did/does in the film & I find that bloomin' scary, especially at the beginning of the film...of course the sequels ruined that element of mystery so I just ignore them Nightmare on Elm St (again ignoring most of the sequels...I liked the 7th ;D) And again I'm repeating myself...but it's a classic! The whole dream/nightmare, what's real, what isn't, the fact that no-one believes her, so no-one helps her...terrifying! Parts that always stick in my mind are the scenes where Freddie sort of 'stretches' the wall & leans over Nancy as she sleeps but then disappears as she wakes up & the same where he stretches the mattress & reaches for her but never actually breaks through, it's just creepy as hell! I remember being utterly terrified to go to sleep after watching this film the 1st time & kept hearing those horrid children singing that 'Freddie's coming for you' Nursery rhyme in my head When A Stranger Calls (the original 1979 version) It's the creepiness factor here that gets me & the fact that I used to (& still do from time to time) do babysitting for some people, I ALWAYS hated to answer the phone when I was babysitting I may come back & add more once I've hit my dvd collection...of course you could put several Hitchcock films here, though I suppose you could argue they are more thriller than horror sometimes, anyway...The Birds is brilliant, love Rear Window & Strangers on a Train, think Psycho is over-rated

I used to be really into gory horror films, but now I cannot watch them. The Saws (I, II, III) were on showtime today...Jesus mary and joseph those movies are just revolting...how can people think up those scenarios... My mum is really into horror movies, most of what she owns is horror. Poltergeist is one of her favourites, and it was also on today, I quite enjoy it now, though at one point we used to watch it so offen that I couldnt stand it. I agree with Juanita, it is a pretty good movie in the genre. I do still like Evil Dead. It is just kinda funny and fruity and all. And Texas Chainsaw original. Other than that I cant name any more cause they make me cringe and feel awful and I just cant watch them all the way through.

I love horror movies and try to remember as much as possible. Invasion of the body snatchers (1956 and 1978) I like both versions and I just read yesterday that there will be a remake with Nicole Kidman! Shaun of the dead/ Dawn of the deadHilarious Horror movie, I laughed so hard that I almost choke. And the original (especially the remake) is a great movie, too. ShiningI am a sucker for good Stephen King horror movies, so I just picked the Shining, but there are lots more like Carrie, Dolores, It, Misery... NosferatuCreepiest costume ever, it always works for me, eventhought it's a silent movie. American Werewolf in ParisAlso a funny horror movie somehow, with the shmaxy Julie Delpy and a sex scene on the grave of Jim Morrisson. 28 Days laterGreat story, great actors, and great pictures: Like a total empty London (I still don't know how they did that, did they just shot in the morning and close the streets??) And tataaaa: My all time favourite: Freaks (1932)So dark and wrong it will make your hair stand on end. It plays in a circus with lots of "freaks", today we would say handicapped people. But the danger are "normal", healthy people in the end. It's very interesting to watch, especially because it plays more than 70 years ago, in such a wicked time in history. And Voila: www.moviesfoundonline.com/freaks.php

Invasion of the body snatchers (1956 and 1978) I like both versions and I just read yesterday that there will be a remake with Nicole Kidman! It's called "The Invasion" and was released earlier this year if I'm not mistaken. Nightmare on Elm St (again ignoring most of the sequels...I liked the 7th ;D) And again I'm repeating myself...but it's a classic! I remember being utterly terrified to go to sleep after watching this film the 1st time & kept hearing those horrid children singing that 'Freddie's coming for you' Nursery rhyme in my head Yes, Nightmare on Elm Street(part 1 and only 1) Is one of my all time faves as well. You get to see Freddy's power first hand in the first few scenes, but you don't see him til a bit later. The fact that his face is disfigured and has those knives for fingers makes it even more scary. It sets up the mood/tone of the film from the get go and never gets old. The ending is a tad bit predictable, but it is still very much fun to watch with friends oh and Simmone, I agree about those films. I don't care for them really. If they have no plot for me to follow, I wont watch.

Poltergeist has always been a favorite of mine. it doesnt really scare me any more... its just a fabulous movie. they dont make movies like that anymore, most of the stuff these days is just too gory for me...
The Others another one that i think is brilliantly made. it sends chills up my spine and genuinely scares me... yet there's no blood! it's all psychological!
Se7en is one of my favorite movies. it's creepy as fuck! plus i love morgan freeman.
and others that i love: silence of the lambs, the cell, the haunting (the orignal), ect... that's all i can think of.

I've been watching horror movies since I was a teenager and it's too hard to pick favourites.. These days they don't make that good horror movies anymore (I don't consider Scream type of movies to be horror at all). I like Italian horror.. Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci.. and they made good movies in the 80's. Anything with Tom Savini is great I like the gory stuff.. it's like art. For example those Saw movies It takes imagination to come up with different ways to die and then make it look like it's real. Ok.. so.. to list a few of my faves: Suspiria The Omen ( the 2006 remake) Dog Soldiers Silent Hill Evil Dead Halloween (just the first one) Creepers/Phenomena Phantasm series OMG.. There's so many of good horror movies...

I've must say that I have an affection for 80's slasher movies. Friday the 13th and anything similar to it. I used to be a huge horror fan in the 80's and 90's. Waited each month for the newest issue of Fangoria, ran to my local video store and told the owner what to order. If I had to pick a few favs-
Friday the 13th part 3- If I saw this movie once Ive seen it 100 times. Carpenters The Thing- Revolutionized on-set makeup effects. Evil Dead- The whole movie is like one long blood-splattered roller-coaster ride. Carpenters Prince of Darkness- Just damn creepy. The Blair Witch Project- Although not entirely a new idea, this one is the last great horror films I've seen. The Burning- Blatant Friday the 13th ripoff, but still a gem. Mario Bava's Bay of Blood/Twitch of the Death Nerve- the one that started the slasher movie phenomena. Jaws- A horror film taken to a higher level of quality. Day of the Dead- Savini in top form. Dead Alive- Easily, easily the goriest horror film ever made. Check out the unrated version if you get the chance and see if you don't agree. Cujo- A very simple movie, but very affective. Dog Soldiers- A throwback to the 80's and 90's. Goopy as hell, but with a very basic story. Great film. Re-Animator- A benchmark in the horror genre. I spent half the movie saying "How much further can they go with the goo?!" Of Unknown Origin- Peter Weller before Robocop fame. It's Peter, a rat, and him losing his mind. Geez, I could go on and on. But dont worry, I wont.....

8.) The Shining (the original)
9.) Ginger Snaps
10.) The Wicker Man (the original)
I also looooooove Christine, The Thing (the John Carpenter remake), Prince of Darkness, Jaws, Black Christmas (the original), Suspiria, Phantasm, The Burning, Friday the 13th (the original), Friday the 13th Part 2, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the original), The Haunting (the original), The Innocents, An American Werewolf in Paris, Freaks, The Howling, The Omen (the original), Race With the Devil, Cujo, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, Drag Me To Hell, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, 28 Days Later, and 28 Weeks Later.

^did you saw the remake of the wicker man? ;D i agree with nightmare in elm street and project blair witch and i'll add two more It (or at least that was the name around here) did you have anything that looks like an air vent? do you fear clowns? then this is the movie for, you'll never ever will sleep again after seeing how this evil clown grab kids through air vents and shows his big ass teeths Jacob ladder: Not horror per se, but it0s about a guy who returns from Vietnam only to find that there are some "things" following him and trying to tear up his life and little by little Jacob is losing his sense of what's real and what's not, the movie that every paranoid must have oh and anything with zombies, but they don't scare me, i just find them hilarious

I love horror movies! All Val Lewton movies are terrific, even though they're sort of a genre of their own. Also love:
1. The Abandoned (about a woman who'd been adopted out of Russia as an infant and returns to her destiny).
2. Suspiria--Supposed to have been a trilogy, but the director ran out of the type of film used in this film, which hits all the buttons that make a person want to sleep with the lights on.
3. Event Horizon--it's really not that great, but it scares the hell out of me anyways, I mean it REALLY scares me.
4. The Haunting (1963)
5. Night Must Fall (Robert Mitchum)
6. Below (2002) a terrific movie, so wonderful and perfectly directed. Set on a haunted submarine in WWII.
7. Pitch Black--Since Vin Diesel isn't allowed to speak much, he doesn't really ruin it.
8. Hellraiser I and Hellraiser II--those creepy Cinobytes (sp?) are the scariest things ever filmed. But I love their wardrobe.
9. The Spiral Staircase (with Ethel Barrymore)
10. The Skeptic--a perfect ghost story, just perfect. If you liked The Others, you will love this.
11. The Objective--set in the middle of the war on terror, but terrorists are not the thing to fear here.
12. The Devil's Backbone--A Spanish movie set in a war-torn orphanage with a ghost.
