Just out of curiosity, do you include the original Batman in that? I thought that movie was awesome and even today think that it may be the best comic book movie ever. Tim Burton really brought a lot to the design and feel of the film. All that art deco and futurism, yum! Hell, my man Prince even did the soundtrack. It came out in '89 so you may have omitted it from your comment. The other 3 films are total crap though, I'll give you that. I really think that Jack Nicholson nailed the joker in the first film. Heath Ledger has a tough job to do trying to match up with a performance that many see as definitive by one of the all time great American actors. That said, I am really really looking forward to the movie. Batman Begins was a great reboot to the Batman franchise and I hope they keep it going. Hell yes I love '89 Batman. No, I don't count the OG Batman in the same franchise as the ones from the '90s. It's in a class of its own. Prince is MY MAN, dammit! Batdance = brilliant. I suppose we can share his purple badness, headleg... he may be a tiny tiny man, but his ego knows no boundaries... Well then, we are in agreement. And there is plenty of purple rain to go around, unless he sues us both, Prince is big on the litigation lately. BTW: I think I should change my forum name to Headleg permanently, it is meant to be, it just took a few beers to realize this...

I do not like ANY of the old Batman movies, they absolutely SUCK monkey balls. I have a lot of respect for Tim Burton, but I say ney. They do NOT capture 'Batman', how they SHOULD. I am very passionate about this. They turn the movies in a silly, almost comical cartoon. Ugh. Most true Batman fans I know, hate them as well... I was pretty skeered to watch 'Batman Begins', 'cos I feared it would suck yet again, but nooooooooooooooooooope, they really captured "Batman".

I LOVED the first 2 Batman films (seriously adore the 1st one in particular) but with each of the later films I've disliked them more & more...Batman Begins was admittedly better than the one with Arnie in as Dr. Freeze or whatever but then that's not a particularly hard feat to achieve in my opinion! ;D But yeah, I'm actually not looking forward to this film, mainly cos it has the Joker in & in my view absolutely nothing whatsoever can ever come near Jack Nicholson's Joker from the 1st film He is my favourite part of that film (I actually remember almost crying when I was little when he died ) And I rewatch the 1st Batman so many times, simply to enjoy Jack's scenes but then I am a big ol' Jack Nicholson freak so... (Oh and I know they're adapting this new film so it's all a different style & mood etc so this Joker won't be like Jack's Joker but it's still the Joker & thus Jack wins every time for me! )

Well, I LOVED Batman Begins because it is truer to the comic books & Christian Bale fucking rocks as the Dark Knight, but I have to say that I am a huge fan of the original ones with Michael Keaton. Yeah, they are kinda cartoonish in a way, but I thought that made it fun. Plus, I think that Michael Keaton is a great actor. However, Batman Begins is definitely the best out of all of them and I cannot wait for the sequel. I also heard that Anthony Michael Hall is in it & I love him on the show The Dead Zone.

All this Christian Bale and Michael Keaton talk, I think we all know the real Batman was Adam West. The 1966 Batman movie will forever be the definite article. In all honesty if you haven't seen the '66 film, you need to do so. But make sure you are drunk or stoned, it is better that way. One of the best bad movies of all time. That rubber shark was genius, and the "bomb" scene needs to be seen to be believed.

^ "Nobody messes with Adam We ... or do they?" The 1960's TV series and movie? Surely you are joking!
Hmmm... I used to be a Batman purist like Saar, but now, I'm not so precious. I think The Dark Knight Returns comic miniseries by Frank Miller (1986 onwards) is one of the most bold things ever done in regards to the Batman story, as well as the Zero Hour/Batman series. Up until a few years ago, I had never even seen the Keaton Batman, because it would have just offended me. Batman is too much of a dark story not to be taken seriously.
I generally allow one or two frivolous tangents with the things that I love, otherwise I just take them too seriously. Batman '89 and Katie Holmes in BB were those frivolous tangents. Batman '89 kept the story semi-serious and drove it into the realm of hyper-fantasy, much like Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again did. When kids tell me their favourite superhero is Spiderman, or the Hulk or Superman, I tell them to read the Batman comics.

LOL @ Adam West and the 60 TV series... yeh, seen them. ;D Now, I appreciate the old movie and tv series, 'cos it has soul and it just has a pure comic/cartoon feel. The '80ies movies tried to make it less comical and more serious, but like us cat macrophiles would say: FAIL. But that's my opinion about them, I am like how kelli put it, a Batman purist. As a kid I was obsessed with this figure and in a way I still am. There's only one superhero in my mind. Tudududud Baaaaaaaatmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Thinking about it, why the hell do we have a superman smiley and not a batman one... haha. Oh btw, to all yer 'Katie Holmes' haters, she won't be in the 'Dark Knight'... the fabulous 'Maggie Gyllenhaal' is taking her role! Reason for Editing: 'cus I can't speeeeeeell.

Oh, and having read through the whole thread... Spider-Man done right could be every bit as good (especially if it went for a darker storyline along the line of a proper Venom origin movie). Unfortunately, not only has it never been done right, but with the third movie has gone beyond redemption! First thing that should have been done was to give Jake Gyllenhaal the part of Peter Parker, then give the movie franchise to someone who knows how to make a straight super hero movie - please note that Xena, Hercules, and the Evil Dead movies don't qualify as being "straight" (entertaining and funny, yes, but definitely not straight stories where the only humour comes from the natural bizarreness of the situation). Kirsten Dunst should be allowed nowhere near the movie either (Bryce Dallas Howard, ironically, would have fitted the role of MJ better). agree entirely on the Kirsten Dunst comment. I lost interest in her as an actress after her role in *interview with a vampire*. Personally, that's the best role she's ever had and basically everything after that has been mulch. But that's IMHO!!! really all I'm saying is that they should have picked someone else for MJ (Bryce would have been better, you're right!... but I like her more as an actress) Same with Batman Begins. KATIE HOLMES?!!!! seriously people??? with Christian Bale? ? I find him to be a far too mature male than to be cast opposite Katie Holmes, of Dawson's Creek fame.

^ YAY!! I saw a part of 'Rescue Dawn' on the plane... but there was too much noise around me to understand most of the dialogue, so I left it. But what I saw, was really good. He's just so fucking brilliant.
