What, you've spent all day watching a weird TV programme? Congratulations. You are now officially a student (Seriously, when I was at uni there was a bit of a dead week or two at the end of the school year, between exams finishing and gone back 'home'. There was literally nothing to do but enjoy yourself, and I remember me and random people spending entire days watching the Simpsons or sci-fi boxsets (in between throwing nachos at each other). Those were the days ;D)

Tom Baker as Doctor Who is one of the few things from my childhood I remember ;D I'm very much in two minds about the 'new' version however. The acting is excellent (Christopher Eccleston was brilliant, and David Tennant is OK) but quite a few of the stories have just been totally stupid. And I prefered it with longer stories (they used to go on for months) and I generally prefer proper alien planet storylines rather than the Earth ones they seem to be doing at the moment. There have been exceptions though - certainly there's been a couple of great episodes from the second series (the Madame de Pompadour one and the ancient-monster-stuck-in-a-black-hole one), but mostly it's garbage. I think they throw in a good one on occasion just to keep me watching

Well, I didn't think it was that bad!
I agree the first two movies were excellent, and it was lacking in comparison to them. I think what makes them distinctive is the extra characteristion, moral ambiguities and juicy dialogue. Unfortunately there are lots of potentially interesting sub-plots in X3 that they simply don't bother with, so it's difficult to get involved (can we have more of the wing boy please? And the girl who can walk through walls? And my mother rather liked Vinnie Jones!)
On the plus side I thought the acting was decent and the last half hour is the best special effect/action bonanza I've seen in ages (although admittedly the finale is a tad on the melodramatic side!).
If anything lacking's it's the script in the first half of the film.
...and if that's Famke Janssen looking 'rough as a badger's arse', well, I'm off to molest the nearest badger... (I actually thought she did rather well with a dubious story line.)

All the reviews of 'Children of Men' I saw were a bit dodgy...maybe I'll go see it after all...
Looking forward to 'The Prestige' too.

Oddly enough Charlotte's Web and Alice In Wonderland rate among my favourite book (in fact they're probably my favourite children's books, end of.) I find the sound of 'Alice' a bit disturbing, I have to say.
I'm currently looking forward to 'A Scanner Darkly'. Always up for a bit of Richard Linklater.

That is a truly appaling picture of Kirsten Dunst. I'm a bit of a fan of hers myself (mainly from Eternal Sunshine, it has to be said.)

New Order are a bit patchy, but some of their '80s stuff in particular is truly fantastic. Coppola is obviously some '80s indie fanatic ;D (Oh, and the link didn't work for me. Quicktime )

bump-headed?
I think she's quite cute actually. And she's very good in Eternal Sunshine (IMHO). Not convinced beyond that. Odd choice for Marie Antoinette.
(I just tracked down a trailer for Marie Antoinette, and the music was 'Age of Consent' by New Order, which was a pleasent surprise...)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind Serenity Best two films of the last couple of years I slightly disagree with Teppic on Serenity - I think it stands up quite well as a stand-alone film. There's a lot of characterization and plot nuances you may not get if you haven't seen Firefly, but it's still eminently comprehensible and enjoyable. The plot does catapult along at a staggering rate at times though - I think a few chatty development scenes early on in the film would have been good (and give opportunity for a few more signature one-liners ;D ) [/geek mode]

Bit like Oasis really
Andrew will, KILL, YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We've been here before ;D Actually, it's worth pointing out I liked Oasis very much in the '90s. I also think Standing on the Shoulders of Giants is very good in parts, and I really wish they'd done more stuff like 'Gas Panic' or 'Fucking in the Bushes'. Heathen Chemisty just sounded like an inferior copy of their earlier stuff though, and I've just got a bit bored with them. The latest album is the first one I haven't bought.

Harry Potter is startlingly derivative. It's a car crash of ideas, many stolen from Tolkein, greek myths etc. I've never even thought they were that well-written. It's just making huge amounts of money stealing other people's ideas. Bit like Oasis really Reason for Editting: ...and Microsoft, now I come to think of it...

I'm currently reading Last Chance to See, by the author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, Douglas Adams. But LCtS is a nonfiction book about endangered species. Back in the late 80's, Adams traveled to remote parts of the world with a zoologist to observe, and in some cases, interact with, various animals on the (or soon to be on the) endangered species list, and wrote about it. It is at turns amusing, fascinating, and discouraging. I'm into two chapters so far and I'm really enjoying it! Very good book. And you're the first person I've met in the last decade whose heard of it!

What's up, Teppic?
"Inara, think you could stoop to being on my arm?" "Will you wash if first?"
