I went & saw the new Harry Potter film, now that the initial mad rush to see it has died down a little so the cinema wouldn't be so full. Anyhoo, greatly enjoyed it, probably the best film yet but still no match for the books (well when is a film ever a match for a book it's based on? ) But yeah the acting has improved immensely in the kids, the new kid actors that have been brought in for newly big parts (I'm thinking Lavender particularly) were great, the feel of the film is great & perfect for how the book felt & it copes well with the fact that the whole point of this story was essentially to help build up to the next part of the story. Anyway, greatly enjoyed it though was entirely distracted by Prof. Snape/Alan Rickman as per usual...seriously everytime he was on screen I was literally like a teenager trying to conceal my excitement & whenever he wasn't on screen I basically just wanted him back on screen as soon as possible so kept forgetting to pay attention in the non-Snape scenes. Disappointed they cut some of his scenes/story from the book but I suppose it is called "Harry Potter & the blah blah" & not "Severus Snape & the whatever"...it would be entirely focused on Snape though if I had my way.

Just had a massive plate of one of my favourite dishes, carpaccio with a ton of rocket, oil & balsamic vinegar & a little parmigiano on top If the beef is high quality then it's absolutely to die for, though only if you're a meat eater of course

Have to say my new favourite coffee to use the cafetière with is this Cuban coffee my parents bought back from their holiday to Cuba, not sure of it's actual name or whatever but it makes a gorgeous coffee. Oh and just to upset a few people in this thread, I refuse to go to Starbucks, I cannot stand their coffees

I love the X-Files too...I have all the seasons on dvd & agree that the early seasons are the best ones overall. Certainly 1-6 are my favourites, 7 & 8 are good to excellent in places but have some not so good episodes mixed in amongst the good ones. Season 9 is where I lost interest really, the lack of Scully-Mulder interaction really kills it for me but there are still a few good episodes in that season.

Oooh love this thread! I'm actually having a coffee as I type...well it's sat beside me ready to drink anyway. I'm more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker but I do love a good cup of tea when the mood is right. Love peppermint tea, camomile & other herbal ones but not really fruity ones, I usually only drink plain old PG Tips though. My favourite tea is probably Earl Grey though I'm told by many that I drink it in a wrong way because I put milk in mine, not sure if that's against standard Earl Grey usage but I like it that way! Coffee, however, I can drink any which way & at any time...my favourite ways of having coffee is either plain black, a strong espresso, cappuccino, mocha or an Irish coffee (though I make mine using French brandy instead of Irish whiskey so I suppose I should call it a French coffee), in fact any liqueur coffee usually appeals to me but Irish/French is the best in my opinion. Also as I side note I always add milk to my tea &, depending on the type of coffee, sometimes to the coffee but never, ever add sugar...I can't drink it if it's had sugar added to it (except obviously in the case of the Irish/French coffee).

In Bruges - greatly enjoyed this film, very funny but also quite violent too, so perhaps not for those expecting a light-hearted comedy. It's in Belgium.

Dr. Who...it's the only tv show on nowdays that I actually watch. Sadly it's not actually on at the moment so my tv watching is now at zero but an Easter (I think) special is due so I'm excited for that!

Is that a new Bat for Lashes album? (Sorry I'm ridiculously behind on almost all facets of music right now) I adored Fur & Gold...should I be hunting down a new album?

awesome album. Suspended in Gaffa is the greatest. love love love this album. Sat In Your Lap is my favorite, but Suspended in Gaffa and There Goes a Tenner follow closely behind. I actually don't think I can pick a definite favourite, it changes all the time & I adore all the songs but if I was absolutely forced to pick, my favourite would be from one of these: Get Out of My House, Leave It Open, Suspended in Gaffa, Pull Out The Pin, Sat In Your Lap & Night of the Swallow...almost listed the whole album, not quite

Oh and I watched The Reader & cried my eyes out (which if you know me, you'd know how utterly rare that is, I think I've cried in maybe 3 films in my life & they were mostly when I was like 7 years old). This film had me crying before the half way mark! Absolutely unheard of for me I'm not even sure why I cried so much, think it may have been partly the music which is absolutely beautiful, combined with the exquisite acting all round & the story itself which is almost a non-event story. Nothing particularly dramatic happens for half the film & even when the drama really gets going it's fairly tame but for whatever reason it was captivating & emotional & just beautifully done on all levels. I think it's a similar style to the one of the director's other films, The Hours, which didn't have a distinct plot as such that you could explain simply but was more of a character study of 3 women, & in this sense The Reader is similar in that it's looking at the life of this woman & this young man/boy she has an affair with & the track their lives take. I really did enjoy this film & was shocked at how much it actually affected me.

I finally saw the Dark Knight the other day...overall I'd give it a meh, didn't live up to the massive hype really for me. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, in fact for a summer blockbuster it was very impressive all round & I loved Heath Ledger as the Joker (though I fully expected to not enjoy it as I am a die hard Jack Nicholson fan & almost no one can live up to his film portrayals in my mind but Heath did an exceptional job there, took it to a compltetly different place so I greatly enjoyed that.) I loved the idea behind the story, in that sometimes heroes aren't the stereotypical white knight in shining armour, sometimes to be a hero you have to do the things no one else can do or would want to do & live with those consequences yourself. Loved the idea but something about the execution of it in terms of the film as whole I didn't enjoy as much as I expected. Not sure if it was a directing thing, editing, cinematography or what but something was just "off" for me & made me feel like I was labouring through a film that I should be enjoying more than I actually was. There were parts were I really got into it & then something would happen & I'd be jolted out of it & be wanting the scene to finish or go back to the good stuff or just end entirely.
Plus I dislike whatever they did to Christian Bale's voice when he was Batman...absolutely hated it almost to the point where I wanted Batman to shut up & get off the screen so I could get back to enjoying Heath as the Joker.
