Can't believe she's not been mentioned here - or maybe I just don't know how to use "search" properly.. ;D Anyway, I came across her music about month ago, and it's been a long, pleasant ride since. Her style is something between fantasy pop and goth industrial. However, she's a classical-trained violinist and makes her music all by herself, mixing baroque with electronica etc. These I recommend: Those are from her latest album "Opheliac" The other album is called "Enchant" and almost totally different, with many styles from baroque-pop to jazz. There's one song, that's probably very Tori-influenced, too: Feel free to make your own judgement, I've made mine and spread the plague here.

No catches yet... ;D
I should have mentioned, that she plays violin AND harpsichord (!) in almost every song in her Opheliac album!
Here goes a link once more:
And here's some live violin work:
Enjoy...

I really love Emilie Autumn's work. Misery Loves Company, the harpsichord is so beautiful in that song. I also love her songs Juliet, and Swallow.

Yeah, Juliet from Enchant... Emilie has this sense of drama with her! She's coming to Finland in April and I'm definitely going..

And it definitely was worth it! Never seen anything like it. EA's show went on for 2½ hours (too much for some, since you had to stand the whole time... poor feet!) but it was hilarious. And dramatic. It's interesting now that Tori has a song about Ophelia as well. I think, for those who are interested in the story behind that more, would be interested in EA's work, too. I'll quote some of her lines here later... I'm surprised that Tori and Emilie fandom doesn't co-exist more. She's sometimes a bit like Pele-era Tori; crazy, mad and yes, with the harpsichord.. ;D Maybe it's the gothic scene that scares people off, but EA is so much more than that. Hehe, I'm still trying to spread the plague here... But hey, John, glad you like her!

Ok, I have to get this out of my system, no matter how many eyes will catch this rambling... So. Ophelia. OpheliaFrom " Mad Girl" The beginning and the end Much closer than they seem Death is but a dream, I know Dolls are meant to grow away All broken and bent from petty play My friend in this world Is a bottle of nothing Still I fly Still I fall
Mad girl Can you believe What they've done to you? Wouldn't they stop When you asked them to leave you alone In all your faerie tales How did the prince say he loved you? How did your father die? Was he a good man? Maybe someday you'll know Ophelia is an archetype of a mad girl, whose suicide is considered romantic. There are several paintings that romanticize Ophelia's death. From " The Art of Suicide": The art of suicide, pretty and clean Conveys a theatrical scene Alas I'm gone, she cried Veins displayed Melodramatically laid
Ophelia laid herself in water, waiting for the tide to come in. From " 306": Like the story I heard A lifetime ago Where a girl (and this is funny) Took her life And what she doesn't know Is how long it takes for the water to rise And the breath to stop fighting And the cold to close her eyes So did the sea level rise? From " Swallow": I will swallow If it will help my sea level go down But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown I will swallow If it will help my sea level go down I'll take a deep deep breath But I'll come back to haunt you if I drown And, inevitably, it comes to this: From " Opheliac": I couldn't be your friend My world was too unstable You might have seen the end But you were never able To keep me breathing As the water rises up again Before I slip away The End.
