She gave it her all at the VMAs. A part of me thinks she wanted to prove to people that she had a voice.... and she did!!! she proved it to me, at least. Wow...

Lady GaGa has an excellent voice, and is certainly attractive - not to mention having a High Energy level. However, so far, I have not been impressed with any of her Songs. I do think that as she matures, she will probably end up performing a song I will love. To date, that has not happened. I would also say the same thing for Taylor Swift. She also has an excellent voice - and she even writes her own songs. However, the problem with her is that most of her stuff is designed to appeal to the mind of a Child. For example, in a song of Hers called "Our Song,"she has lyrics in it that go: "You talk real low, cause it's late and your MOMMA DON'T KNOW." Obviously, lyrics like that simply can not appeal to an Adult Mind. Then she has other songs that focus on High School Loves, etc... This is great if you want to sell to Kids - which she has been very successful at doing, by the way. However, it certainly is not something I would find interesting. Lady GaGa, while not writing songs in that vein, do still contain a shallow quality to them- such that they would appeal to the more prurient nature of the YOUNGER - High School Age, and below, Crowd. In this case, the appeal to the Young is generated by the desire of the young to see themselves as being Adult-Like. (Thus, the appeal to the Young in regards to her Sexual Overtones, and Video's - not to mention the misguided "Youthful Desire" - to also want to create a "Shock Effect" to the Older Generation) I would anticipate the majority of her fan base coming from the High School Age Level and Below. Although I can see a slight potential appeal to those who are beyond this age - especially if one blocks out the lyrics - inasmuch as the music to her songs are definitely not bad. For me, I can no more tune out the lyrical quality of a song, than I can tune out the Musical quality of a Song - Since both are part and parcel of the whole. However, I do think that one day, both of them will end doing a song that I will probably love. It just hasn't happened yet. Neither one of them, have near the Genius, or talent that Tori Amos has - Although both will probably make a great deal more money than Tori - since Tori's appeal is primarily limited to the exceptional few; whose intelligence places them well above the average music listener. I just dance to the music without analyzing whether it's lyrically sound or conveying some sort of message in this case. I get what you're saying, but I guess there's just different kinds of performers - I love Tori's music because it's intense, interesting, and there are millions of layers to peel off, and I love Lady GaGa's music because it's catchy and I like to dance to it at times.

Hello nn0504, I will admit that you do have a point, regarding her music having a place for those who like to Dance. I do agree that the music to her Songs are very good. However, since I have never danced in my Life, this aspect would not be a factor for me. That's why, I have never been able to tune out the Lyrical or the Musical content of a song. There are many singers who have truly great music, but have lyrics that are so childish, or otherwise lacking in some way - that it takes awy from my being able to fully enjoy it. also Then are brilliantly written songs (lyrically) that are severely lacking musically. Just as in the former case, I find the lack of Musical appeal to by such that it also takes away from my being able to fully enjoy it. However, I do see where one who loves to Dance, may indeed find Lady GaGa's songs to have an appeal in that regard. Steve B.

I usually don't care for her stuff... but this was very nice.

She is a heroin fiend. Her music is so/so. It's like crack. One hit is good, but 2 hits is too much.

I usually don't care for her stuff... but this was very nice. Lady Gaga performs her rendition of 'Imagine' at the HRC National Dinner 2009 I honestly like her more and more every day. From what I've seen, I think she's great. I just wish she'd put that into her records... she has a voice, she has a point of view. Now I want that to happen in the recording studio. I look forward to her next album, because I think that will happen. Especially now that she's become a hit... I hope she uses it wisely.

^ ITA. And I got the Cherrytree Sessions yesterday and listened to that EP today. Her voice is really, really beautiful when she strips down the songs. I think if she puts a bit more substance in her songs, she'll be around a while.

I would definitely warm to her if she stripped her music down.
