What do you all think of Alicia Keys?? I kinda remember hearing really bad commentds about her in here a while ago... I have to admit id a guilty pleasure for me...I luuuv her!!! I know she's mainstream and everything but can't help it. I like her voice a lot, even when she speaks she has the sexiest voice ever. I almost like her more when she speaks than when she sings lol Fallin is a classic and the new single is good too!! This is her interview with Jo Willey (you can hear Alicia's sexy voice) + No One: youtube.com/watch?v=_wmlKWd9HFYand this is the cover she did on the show, The Fray's How to Save a Life: youtube.com/watch?v=DYzlRD-Ezvg__________________

I remember the first time I read something about her, they said: 'a black Tori Amos'... so I had to check her out and well, I felt like stabbing that journalist. LOL. I only know one song 'Fallin', which is an ok pop song, she has a nice voice, but not my cup of tea.

Hmmm... I vaguely remember singing Fallin' once when I was really drunk walking home with my friend one time because we were feeling 'soulful' and just kept on falling down in the middle of the road. Usually when we are drunk we sing Cher or Anastacia or something really funny. But this was like 2001, so... I don;t know.
That was my only liaison with Miss Keys.

The only nu soul artist that I really like is India.Arie. She's amazing, especially live. The production on her albums is sometimes a bit too 'poppy', but she has some really good songs for sure. oh! India.Arie! I love her song "Video"! for Alicia...she's not bad, but I agree with Rasp, she's in no way comparable to Tori. and I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a T fan. they are just not on the same level imo and the music style is - apart form the piano - not really similar either. all in all I find Alicia a bit too much MTV-mainstream for my liking....at least what I've heard of her studio stuff. but I remember I once had a bootleg from one of her live concerts that sounded actually pretty cool

India.Arie! I love her song "Video"! I love that song as well, it can make the saddest person happy! So funny, since it's really not my type of music anymore. But I dig India.Arie for some reason.

I must agree with all the non-likers in this thread. She's just not my cup of tea. I saw part of her concert at Live Earth and I think I was impressed with her energy on stage, but I thought her voice and everything was just annoying and not even remotely comparable to T in terms of quality of live performance (not having your voice drift off into weird dimensions so that everyone can hear you're way off key and all). I'm sure she's a nice girl and very skilled and hard-working, but no one I'd buy a CD from. I'd probably only see her in concert if someone gave me the ticket and promised me a cocktail or a glass of wine at the show.

I think she is amazing and very talented. I also like the way she presents herself in the media, she does not need to prostitute herself, you know what I mean? But somehow I am not "feeling" her, I don't mind hearing a song on the radio, but I never had the idea of getting an album. Comparing her to Tori: That's bullshit. Two totally different characters, artists. But music journalists just need categories and to write a critic quickly and that's why stuff like that happens. Don't take that too serious.
