I am curious to see if there are any other Regina fans on this board?? I adore the woman but also heard she had said she hates being compared to Tori. I've never actually FOUND the article though. Her songs are so easy to learn and fun to play on the piano for beginners.

I love her, too. She is very unique, either you hate her or you love her. I doubt there is anything between. In my opinion you can't compare them anyway. So that's probably why she is pissed off by comparisons. Here is the interview: Tweed: Do you feel like you’re unfairly compared to Tori because you’re a redheaded female behind a piano? Is that a sore point? Or is she an inspiration that you enjoy being likened to? Regina: I respect her as a musician, but no, I don’t enjoy being compared to her. Funny thing, is I get asked that question more often, than I actually get compared to her, so I think people assume I get compared to her a lot more often than I do. Wow, that was a fuckin mouthful... Anyhow—I think that people should spend more time being in the music and in the moment, rather than trying to associate it with things they already know or assume common threads. I have listened to way more Dylan and Nirvana and the Beatles, but they are not women playing the piano, so their contribution to my music just goes right on by. And here is the link: www.tweedmag.com/News/Regina_Spektor_Soviet_Kitsch.html

I agree that they are totally different artists and have a totally different feel and it's annoying that people have to group the gals together but I assumed it was a nasty reply, thanks for posting the interview. That makes me feel better. I hope she plays Bonnaroo in 2009! I would love to see her.

I LOVE Regina so so much . Ever since I heard "Fidelity" I had to get all her recorded material [she does too many songs that are live only]. I also feel that she cannot be compared to Tori. The only similarity is the piano and the vagina. They are completely different when behind the piano.

I was just thinking that as a piano player being compared to such a great composer would be a compliment but I guess you could take it to a negative place as well.

I like her. I normally really do enjoy listening to her, but if I'm in the wrong mood or listen to her too much, her voice (and those strange quirky sounds she sometimes does in songs) start to annoy me pretty quickly. But in general i think she's really good. I have Soviet Kitsch, and especially the song "Chemo Limo" is so amazing and so sad Another song of her that I love is "Pavlov's Daughter" About this whole comparison-thingie: I can understand that she gets annoyed by it, but on the other hand I don't think the comparison is that far-fetched. She's of course not a younger version of T, but there are some similarities... And to be honest: if I told someone - who hadn't heard her yet - about her, I'd rather describe her as being similar to Tori Amos, than to Nirvana/The Beatles/Bob Dylan.

I don't mind her, I LOVE Fidelity...I listened to a few other songs and found it all a bit same-ish, so I didn't really bother with her much after that!

I love her! She's an insanely talented musician. I saw her last May and she was all alone and managed to make you forget their was no band, using chairs for beats, of course her piano and her voice as instruments. My mom who wasn't much of a fan became one after that show. I love her older stuff more than Begin To Hope. I actually preview her demos and unreleased stuff like Just Like The Movies and Raindrops.

i like all of her stuff. soviet kitsch is my fav i think... Great disc no doubt. My fav as well... I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I was bounced from a Spektor concert at the London Astoria. I tried to sneak in after the Blackfield show at Mean Fidler (next door) got really boring.
