that I'm starting to dig Amanda Palmer/The Dresden Dolls?! I never liked her voice or cared for the music really, but I stumbled across this performance of 'Astronaut'... and I fell in LOVE. What an amazing performance! www.youtube.com/watch?v=udHpzUnoHSkSo yeah am giving them another try! Now, my question... has anyone dismissed an artist before and then came to like them anyway? I had the same with 'Charlotte Martin'. I couldn't stand her, but now I fucking LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOVE her, I listen to her practically every day now. ;D Anyhow... spill yer guts.

I was curious about Kate Bush once (due to Tori, actually, and the comparisons some critics made to her), so I bought a used cassette of The Kick Inside and my first reaction was "dear God, how can anyone stand her shrill voice?!" I probably listened to half of the tape, ONCE, and never listened to it again.
Then I eventually gave Hounds of Love a try and did a complete 180!!! Now I think she's a genius with an amazing voice, lol.

That is wonderful, wonderful news. Char is love personified. Remember when I posted an ecstatic thread when my friend put her on the phone with me? "This is your wake up call!" LOVE her. Yay. *goes to listen*

Yay! More Amanda love! I knew it would be that version of 'Astronaut'. She always puts all of herself into every performance. She's amazing to watch! I can't wait to see her on her own in August. Actually, most artists I like, I dismissed at first Even Tori. Charlotte, Tori, The Dresden Dolls... I disliked them all at first! When I first bought SLG (my first Tori CD) I thought, "What is this crap?!". I only liked one or two songs. Then she hit me like a ton of bricks and I haven't turned back When my friend Jenn introduced me to Charlotte, I thought she was a poor imitation of Tori (if you listen to her live, it's hard to deny the similarities) but slowly I started to see Charlotte on her own and hear the differences rather than the similarities and I love her now.

OMG I love the Dresden Dolls!!! AHHHHH Their lyrics are some of the most amazing things ever written. And I'm absolutely smitten with Amanda's voice. It's so deep and can sound so strained with emotion. I've seen the dresden dolls perform quite a few times, I also went to their show "The Onion Cellar", and a few of Amanda's solo shows. But the tie that binds them is Brian. If you really listen, he's one of the best drummers out there. I was lucky enough to meet him, he's a really great, personable guy. As a band, they're just so down to earth and real. o man... I love them
