You gotta love them! ;D I think they are great. I know they just rip off every 80ties rock band, but I think they hilarious. I saw them live on MTV2 a few times when I was with Andrew, in October and we both got hooked. ;D We actually both bought their album! I just think they are hilarious, I mean their lyrics are FULL of shit! ;D Isn't that great? I think this is just sing along music, when I feel like singing along....

Cheesy bollocks - Discuss... The Darkness are cheddar I think they are vaguely amusing but their whole career is based on spoofing poodle haired 80s rock music and while that would be ok for a one off joke (see: 'This is Spinal Tap') I think the joke will soon wear very thin once all the bandwagon jumpers and the "build 'em up, knock 'em down" journos have got bored! Seriously, can you imagine what The Darkness would be like in 10 years?

Seriously, can you imagine what The Darkness would be like in 10 years? But the the question is, do they want to hang around for 10 years? I think everyone is just taking them too seriously. The first time I saw them, I was like: wtf, just some dummies who want to rip of every rock band which ever existed, I got kinda upset by it. 'Cos I found it very stupid. But the good thing about them is, that they openly talk about it and admit that they rip everyone off. The more I saw interview, read about them and saw their vid's. The more I just knew what they were all about. F U N! I think it's hilarious and why should all music have to be 'original' or 'have a meaning'. This is just for fun. Fun music which is actually fun. ;D Yes they are bullocks, but that's what they want to be!

Plus I want to add that these guys can actually play the guitar better then 99% of guitarists of bands out there at the moment. I mean, they are live fantastic guitarists. You have to give them credit. I think they will be around for a few years... but then I bet you will hear about one of them or a few of the members which will have formed another band or who just join other bands. They are great musicians.

Well Sid may have cheesy bollocks (thanks for the image mate BTW... ), but The Darkness ( ) are cool! And if you actually see them playing live, and see interviews, you'll see they aren't totally spoofing 80's hair-rock bands. They actually have a lot of respect for those bands, many of which they are fans of themselves. And it seems the respect is mutual - Brian May was at their Carling Homecoming gig that recently took place. At the end of the day they're a very talented pub-rock band at heart. They play the music they play because they love those bands they listened to as kids and teens. They don't take themselves too seriously, and i don't think there was ever any plan for them to become so big. It's just that they are so enthusiastic, and so talanted at playing their instruments that they got a much bigger following than even they themselves ever expected. This is a band who sold out the London Astoria when they had no recording contract and no press coverage! Whether you like their music or not, you can't deny that such an achievement isn't something that's down to luck... The truth about their success is pretty simple - they're fun. When was the last time a band broke through into the mainstream that wanted their fans to leave their show having had fun...? There are bands and musicains that will blow you away from an artistic point of view but few who make you feel like you're in the midst of a fun party while they play. Lets take Radiohead as an example (and i'm a big fan of theirs also remember)... Extremely creative, have some mindblowing musicians (Jonny Greenwood is so musically gifted that it's almost unbelieveable), and make some stunning music. But you hardly feel like you're having the party of your life when at one of their gigs! It's artistic, meaningful, and you'll leave their gig feeling glad to have been able to witness them firsthand, and you may even leave thinking you've just seen the best gig of your life - but how many times will you have actually laughed? Or even smilied? If you want to equate it to films then it works out like this - Radiohead would be a successful independently made film. However The Darkness ( ) would be that slightly dumb hollywood blockbuster that amazes you with it's flashy brilliance and fun moments that leave a massive grin on your face - even hours after you've left the cinema! They're just about having a good time in an ocean of bands and artists who are only interested in being taken seriously. In a world where one of the most talked about bands of the moment are all "pretty" little rich brats who can't be bothered to learn how to play a guitar properly (yeh, cos if kind'a don't bother about it, it like, sounds more like it did in the 70's, which is cool huh? - and saves all the trouble of actually doing something like work), and all stand around gazing into the distance looking like they're bored out of their tiny little brains and want to just get backstage where the supermodels are (yep, stand up and take a round of applause The Strokes!), i think it's really cool to see a hardworking band (and don't think that because they don't take themselves seriously that they don't work hard) that genuinely cares about if it's audience are having a good time. I just can't think of any other band that seems to care about that right now... Sure most of them care that they put on a good show and play as well as they can for their fans, but they don't go out of their way to make their fans laugh and relax and feel a part of the whole show. How many bands do you know where the lead singer can freely go into the crowd (still playing guitar BTW!) and move all the way around the crowd without fear of someone dragging them to the floor... The Darkness leave you feeling happy, and right at this moment in time the world needs more of that. As for the Spinal Tap referance. It's not really the same thing if you look into their backgrounds. Plus it's worth pointing out that Spinal Tap have reformed and played several times over the years, and have been around for a very long time. So they prove a band that doesn't take itself seriously can keep being funny and last for a long time. At the end of the day, regardless of hype (and remember how popular they were before getting any hype before condeming them as just hype), regardless of the in-jokes, they are just damn fine musicians and on that point alone deserve the respect and fame that they're getting. It's no coincidence that while The Darkness are selling albums by the truck-load, the darlings of the music world, The Strokes, are not (even when every music mag in the world is telling everyone to rush out and by their albums). Sermon/Essay over...

Brian May is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Calling him cos you don't like Queen's music is no better than someone slagging off Tori Amos because of the same thing - it doesn't change her skill with her instrument. If you didn't like the Brian May guitar sound then you'll just love the new Darkness ( ) Xmas song then... Besides, didn't Tori Amos start off in "hair-rock" mode herself? Not sure how you can like Depeche Mode but not like the 80's sound either since there are few bands who sound so 80's! And besides, Depeche Mode were a different style of music altogether... They may have been at the rockier end of the synth-pop bands, but they sure weren't hair-rock! I'm not so sure why people always place hair-rock in the 80's anyway if i'm honest... The earliest hair-rock bands were started in the late 70's, and most exsisted in the early 90's.

Well Sid may have cheesy bollocks (thanks for the image mate BTW... ), but The Darkness ( ) are cool! And if you actually see them playing li - snip! Bloody hell, Andrew you write some damn long posts! ;D I do concede that the Darkness appear to be excellent musicians and when they were on Jools Holland I did quite enjoy their performance but I think it is all the hype that is making me hate them! It's not their fault what they media do and I don't really hate them but well, it just doesn't do that much for me... Not too taken on the comedy falsetto vocals I'm not a fan of The Strokes really either ... to be fair I haven't actually listened to that much of their music because the 'oh so cool' image puts me right off. What I've heard sounds alright but nothing earth shattering as we are led to believe... Still just my opinion, and as we all know, opinions are like assholes - everyone has one Strangely enough, when I went to that Radiohead gig recently I smiled almost the entire night and even laughed a couple of times! It was a really fun atmosphere believe it or not and Thom Yorke is actually quite amusing on stage! Radiohead are certainly not the maudlin experience they sometmes get stereotypically portrayed as at all!

I do agree they're talented, & that they work hard, & they're to respected for doing what they want to do & what they believe in etc etc, and I don't begrudge them anything because of all that, but for me personally, their music is just plain irritating. If I hear the guy scream the way he does just once more, I'll......I'll.....well, scream, probably
