Went to see Martha again last night. This was The Grey Horse gig which er... wasn't actually in The Grey Horse this time but in a little place round the back called The Ram Jam Club! Ultra intimate, less than 50 people! I reckon probably only 30 or so! Not that this is at all reflective of Martha's talent just not many people know about her! It's all good though, intimate gigs are the best! Random pic from her site, not one of mine unfortunantly!

Thought I'd just post up her bio seeing as people usually don't go and read hyperlinks ;D
Martha Tilston
Martha was born in the west country and brought up in the songwriting tradition - her father Steve Tilston, a well respected song writer/performer (who's songs are covered by Fairport Convention among others) and her step mother, folk singer Maggie Boyle, had a great influence on her musicality. She would visit her father in Bristol and if Bert Janch or John Renbourne weren't sitting in the front room playing guitar then Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell would be spinning round the turntable. - Though she didn't realise it these artists were to influence her own writing later on. Martha spent most of her growing up years just outside London with her artist mother and theatre teaching stepfather in a house full of kids, cats and a piano which she played and composed on every night. She went to study as an actress then realized song writing was where her heart was.
She first appeared on the scene three years ago with Mouse - an acoustic duo, in which she played with Nick Marshall. Mouse gained huge respect and a dedicated following both in the underground festival scene and also the contemporary acoustic culture. At the end of 2002 Martha supported Damien rice on tour round Ireland and this was really the start of her solo career. Since then Martha has picked up an ever growing word of mouth following.
Martha has played to blissed out audiences at Glastonbury, big green gathering, the Astoria, full houses at the borderline, London, the bush hall, Komedia, concord/ Brighton and the peace concert at the oceans hackney. She or mouse has appeared on numerous radio shows both on the play list and interviews - such as radio 4's loose ends, BBC radio Bristol, London, LBC, and BBC Southern Counties. And has a song on the Big Issue 'peace not war' CD, which is distributed to over 50,000 people. As well as the unplugged end of the scale, Martha has always experimented with more contemporary styles of music. She has collaborated with J-spool - nature records and sang on the Warp records magic bus tour in Rome, as well as having songs on compilation albums with tru thoughts records. Last year she recorded a little lo-fi bedroom album ('rolling') with friend Nigel for the festival season. And though she is currently recording her official debut album - which should be out early summer, Rolling seems to have been very well received in all it's querky rawness.
Her influences at the moment would come mostly from the Wupa Dupa crowd and the artists she is playing with on the Small world solar stage - a breeding ground for talent, conciouse and party music. There is a bubbling scene under the radar and the standard of the music is outstanding. This biog. is just a list of things she's done, or places she's played, The music will hopefully explain the rest.
