MARTHA TILSTON Q&AWhere are you?In Brighton using my flatmate's computer. How did you end up there?I moved down here about a year and a half ago from London - needed bit of sea. Tell us about yourself. As a child I thought I could fly. Likes: bimbling round underground festivals, playing music with my friends, giggling with my mum, red wine, stilton, theatre that makes me think, standing on Zennor Hill. Dislikes: Bush, apathy and bureaucracy. Why are you doing this? What? The questionnaire or the music? Well, music - because I like to provide a little escapism if I c an. Who are you listening to at the moment?Tom Waits, Annie Briggs, Jackson C Frank and my dad - Steve Tilston. Who do you consider to be your contemporaries? There's so much good stuff at the moment hard to think. Well, all of the 'wupa dupa' crowd - Semble, Weston Green, Nun of the Above, Sugardrum, Carrie Tree, Dan Addison, Tom Corbett, Jim Oxboro, the Tabbush Sisters, Ted Humphries, The Big Hairy Band (we have played together at festivals and gigs over the past few years; the music is always experimental, bootiful and inspiring), Thea Gilmore, sumladfromcov, Fridge magnets, Nizlopi, and of course Damien Rice has been a big inspiration on and off stage. What else do you like with a Twist?Sillyness. What one thing can you not live without?Hope. Does this beat working for a living?Yep. Tori Katsu or Tori Amos? Anyone who straddles a piano stool like she's riding a horse gets my vote - Tori Amos.

I saw Marf tonight. She did a couple of songs at the Grey Horse Christmas thingy. I have a cool vid of her singing 'Wave Machine' with Betty from Semble on cello I'll have to show you! I'm really looking forward to her new album too!

Hehe, she often signs her e-mails and diary entries and things as 'Marf' (as in Marfa lol). Saar, that vid is about 150mb as it is 7 mins long (my arms were killing from trying to keep the camera still the whole time)! I might try to compress it with another video codec but I think I might just put it on a CD for you later

Oh yeah, forgot... Martha is playing again on Monday (she's up in London from Brighton for a bit) so I'll try to do another vid or two. See how it goes... it will be a full gig this time too.
