Bob Dylan - in concert, Lille 3rd of July 2006
A review...
Yesterday, my mum and I went to Lille (France) for a concert of da holyness Bob himself. It was only a 45 min drive from our house. Yep, 40 min drive and we're in France, a 30 min drive and we're in The Netherlands... it's coolio living in Belgium. ;D Right, well we left early in the afternoon and had a lil walk around Lille. Then we went to the concert hall and the hall itself wasn't so big, we had GREAT! seats. We got the tickets for free from friends of my mum. They planned to go, but then decided to leave earlier on their trip to Spain and so gave their tickets to my mum. My mum was of course over the moon. Aaaaaanyhow, Bob turned 65 last month. My mum got her first chemo on his birthday. For her it was very emotional to see him. And what a great concert it was!! He was very into it. He doesn't play his guitar anymore, 'cos he prolly has artritis. He plays a lil piano now and he often stretches his hands between songs... BUT however, he still tours and does his thang which is so admirable!
Here's the setlist:
1. Maggie's Farm
2. The Times They Are A-Changin'
3. Down Along The Cove
4. Positively 4th Street
5. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
6. Queen Jane Approximately
7. Highway 61 Revisited
8. Mr. Tambourine Man
9. Honest With Me
10. To Ramona
11. Watching The River Flow
12. Masters Of War
13. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
(encore)
14. Like A Rolling Stone
15. All Along The Watchtower
He played one of my ALL time fav songs... 'Masters of War'. It was just unbelievable strong. He spitted his lyrics out, seemed so fucking angry. Wow. The energy in the room!!!
"Masters Of War"
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks.
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly.
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain.
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion'
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud.
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins.
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do.
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul.
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead.
^ He repeated 'Til I'm sure that you're dead' a few times, spitting out the word 'dead'. Wow. Just wow.
I liked his setlist... slow songs and fast songs followed each other. If you can see Mista Dylan, be sure you go... He won't be around forever. My mum cried her eyes out after the concert, afraid she might not see him again. Tho I told her, he'll be around for a long time. He looked so healthy. I understand her tho, if Tori would be that age, I would be afraid too!
It's funny, his band members constantly were looking at him, he doesn't give any signs during his songs, so they don't know when the song is supposed to end ect. lol. Must be so hard to play with this guy. We also saw 'Hook's friend, the guitarist. Cool guy! Just how we expected him. Anyhow... I admire Bobby, he's an amazing poet and man. A great performer who I wanna see again soon. *gets all teary eyed too* I fucking grew up with this man.
