I think it´s a lot better to sit at a Damien-show than to stand. Just as it is better to sit at a Tori-show than to stand. It´s that kind of music.

I prefer sitting at all concerts really... except for festivals, that's something totally different. I've stood lots in the past and I always manage to be surrounded by huge guys and can not see a thing. I get so upset and annoyed that I can't enjoy the concert propper. Plus, I don't like it when they start shoving and pushing. I'm a bit claustrophobic. I start to panic. lol. Anyway...

what i love about seated shows in the states is that people often don't sit... like... i had kick ass seats for Nine Inch Nails... but no one sat down. so, no one is blocking your view, and you still have room to dance/rock out.

I prefer standing up at gigs, but then I have the advantage of being 6' 1 I definetly respond to music in a physical way. I don't like being constrained.

I know how much you'd like to be at this gig Tep - big, BIG wishes that you can get your tickets tomorrow. Thanks 'Wah. Got tickets (as Sarah's said already of course). Although despite being on the phone from just before when they could sell the tickets, they're only for the row in front of the row which i would have decided it wasn't worth the money or effort to bother with (if that sentence makes any sense?). To be honest i'm not sure how to feel about it. It's certainly not the way i wanted to be seeing Damien Rice for the first time. Plus i'm starting to stress if Sarah's going to be able to get on the flight that she'd talked about, since she doesn't think she'll be able to get to the travel agents til friday and the seat was only held until some point in the last week (and even if she does it's still going to leave us running very late and in a mad dash to get to the other side of Manchester - even if everything goes smoothly we'll only just make it before Damien starts his set). Basically this thing has a potential 'Cluster-Fuck' written all over it. From the tickets being put on sale the day before they told everyone, through the crappy seats i was able to get, right up to how things are going to work out with Sarah's flight and us getting to the venue without missing anything. And no offence intended towards anyone, but i've got to disagree with the whole standing in seated areas thing. I was one row further back from these seats at an Oasis gig in the same venue a few years back, and the moment everyone stood up i couldn't see a damn thing. I fully expected that to happen at an Oasis gig (regardless of the Apollo usually forcing people to sit down upstairs - UK Oasis fans simply don't sit down during an Oasis performance and as i'd expected there was a special security team that night instead of the venue's own security, so the 'arses-on-seats' policy wasn't being enforced), but it took what should have been a very special night and ruined the experience. I'm of relatively average height - not short by any means, but also not super-tall either - and everyone around me seemed to just tower over me. Entire songs would go past without me being able to even see the stage, and all i could think as i watched everyone in front constantly moving around whilst standing on their toes in the hope of being able to see the stage was that if everyone had sat down (or the venue's own policy been enforced in some way that night) then every single person who was upstairs would have had a perfect view of the entire stage for the whole gig. Of course such a situation is even worse for those of us who specifically take seating because we can't stand for a whole night. The one good thing to come out of that gig was when everyone started to leave after Oasis left the stage cos they didn't realise there would be an encore - i grabbed my mate and threatened i'd punch him if he dared give in to the crowd of people telling him to start leaving (and as much as he hated having to let people push past him, he soon got over it when the band walked back out and we got a song without anybody else being in front of us in the entire block). Of course i'm talking about upstairs here. If it's seated downstairs and everyone stands up then if you bought tickets for there and can't see because of it, then you accepted that risk when you chose to go for those seats. But when it comes to upstairs i honestly think people should sit their arse down (i mean just because they're sat it doesn't mean they have to turn into a statue and never move). If they want to dance they should have gone downstairs where it's usually standing, and if people can't get standing tickets and choose to take upstairs seating, then they should also accept that they're paying to sit rather than stand up and block other's views. Sorry to go off on a rant but given my circumstances it's a very personal pet-hate of mine. Just be thankful i didn't start going on about those artists who encourage people in the seated areas to stand up, or even worse, those who decide to rip into those audience members in the seating who don't stand up (and sadly that includes having personally witnessed this happening with one of my favourite artists of all-time).
