Andrew, great to finally meet you at the PJ gig!
So just a random little post. Last Wednesday I was at the 2nd night of the Bella Union 10th Anniversary gigs at Royal festival Hall. I don't know if you are familiar with the label (www.bellaunion.com) but they have some brilliant acts signed and pretty non commercial policy with regards to how they treat sales targets for their artists (as non commercial as you could possibly be as a record label)! Anyway... so at the show they had a few of their flagship bands playing each night. As well as doing their own set there were collaborations between the bands and the odd special guest: Tom from Editors turning up to do 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' with Juanita Stein from Howling Bells on the first night and on the second night guess who turned up to perform with Midlake? Only Paul Weller! I had an official photo pass for both nights so I managed to take a few photos of the modfather and later after the gig I was in the foyer bit typing out a text on my mobile to someone, look up and Weller is walking down the stairs and right past me. Some bloke stopped him to shake his hand but while he was polite he didn't look like he really wanted to hang around too long so I didn't think to bother him. Anyway pretty cool I thought. I know you're a big fan so just thought I'd share!
I'll stick up a link to the photos when I've got them online. In the meantime I would recommend checking out Midlake (www.myspace.com/midlake) if you don't know them. Possibly an acquired taste but I really like them and they were great live. The track they perfomed with Paul Weller was 'Young Bride'.
