Radiohead. www.inrainbows.com/Store/index3.htmlRadiohead have gone officially nanners. Their new album 'In Rainbows' is due out next Wednesday, and is available in a discbox (2 LP's and CD's) or as a digital download. The thing with the digital download is that when you check out, you can 'name your price.' You can choose to pay 1 pence or 25, 500 pounds for the album if you so wish. As Radiohead are without a record label, the discbox will not be available until December 3. "The album, titled In Rainbows, is slated to be released October 10, 2007. On September 30, the band's website was updated to take orders for the album, which will be released in two forms. One will be a digital download in which the customer will be able to name their own price, and the other is a "discbox" which includes the In Rainbows CD, a bonus CD from the recording sessions, a vinyl edition of In Rainbows contained in two vinyl records, and a hardcover book. This discbox will be available for purchase from the "In Rainbows" website for £40 (roughly $82US or $92AUS)." Will this stop the album from being illegally downloaded?

This is awful. I ordered it a few days ago and they never sent confirmation! I entered the correct information for everything and nothing! I e-mailed them twice and they haven't responded. They charged my credit card right away. They made sure to take my money!

^ That sucks, Andrew told me about this a couple of days ago... another band was doing it like this as well, but forgot the name. Hope this won't get the standard... I really find it weird.

I think in some ways it's good and some it's bad
GOOD :
The artist will pocket more money. Even if you pay $2 for their CD, that's $1 more than they get otherwise
You can get a feel for a CD before buying the physical copy and you can do so legally
More people may discover the artist because they can download it for free if they want
BAD :
Record companies may take a hit and drop a lot of people from their label who don't have the fanbase to carry them on a venture like this
It may eventually get to the point where you have to get your music online
Record shops will take a hit - loss of jobs and a loss for those of us that love to hit them

^ that's really horrible. I hope you didn't pay too much for the download. You can always put in an offer of 1 pence, again, I guess, but the fact is that you have already paid for it, so you shouldn't buy it again. I really hope that this doesn't set the standard for future record releases. The joy for me is holding an album, reading the lyrics, looking at the pictures, reading the thankyous, and in some cases, putting the needle on the record and those three seconds of hiss you get as the needle crackles it's way around to the first song. While i have nothing against digital music transfers/digital music players, I prefer to have the packaging and the album. I honestly don't think that this will stop the album from being downloaded, and I honestly don't think that the "man" can stop people from illegally downloading anything. I don't want record shops to go out of business. Although here it is ridiculously difficult to get a job in a record store (you either have to be in the family or a supermodel), I don't know what I would have done as a teenager without them. I mean, gosh, I would have had to hang out in, like, the mall or something. *shakes head* But this doesn't even matter to me! Augh. the last Radiohead album I bought was OK Computer, so Reason for Editing: And, when the doctor said I didn't have worms any more, that was the happiest day of my life.

I paid a good deal for it but my friend said if I still don't get the confirmation, she'll share hers. It's not the point though I tried to submit another order and it wouldn't let me because I had already entered all of my information. I'm really quite disgusted over this. :-\

If they were really brave they would let you name your price AFTER you have a chance to listen to it .

Has all of this worked out for you now? Or are you still without a download code?

Seems like most of you guys are not very enthusiastic about this, but I think it's genious, best idea ever. And by that I mean, releasing your record on your own, without a label, that's a big fook u to the record companies. But they're not releasing just download, they're releasing both, download and physical. And I'm guessing that it's with the limited-super-expensive physical that they're making all the money, no matter how much people pay for the download. All hardcore fans will go for the physical, which is like 100 dollars, but has lots of extras including a 2nd CD of new songs. And I'm saying it's a good idea... but it hasn't worked for Radiohead. They're too big and cannot handle so many fans. And in the end they're in the process of signing a record deal and releasing the record in shops in Jan. So won't work for them but could work for others. It's similar to what T did with the bootlegs or are trying to do now, sell CDs or downloads via your own record company's site, no need for Atlantic or Epic anymore... Also, there was a minimum fee, so even if you're greedy and put 1 pence, there's like 1-2 dollars minimum. But most people I know have paid something as a sign of respect or have bought the discbox... Hope it worked for you Mel, otherwise I can send it to u if you still need it

I downloaded the album 1 or 2 weeks ago from a torrent-site. I read they made rockmusic again, but not on this album. It's still that Kid A/Amnesiac-shit which really makes me nervous. I don't think it's music AT ALL! And I'm glad I didn't waste any money on this new album. Although the idea of this is genous, like Marti already stated.
Radiohead became totally fucked up since OK Computer. To me, Radiohead is Pablo Honey, The Bends, My Iron Lung and OK Computer...

I didn't pay anything because I'm not a Radiohead fan, but I'm not about to turn an opportunity of free music away . I payed about 0.00 and got my download right away. Sorry Marti, but this is not an album of the year. No way. It's too 'samey'. The only song I really like is "Reckoner" because its so lush, so beautiful. Thom Yorke's voice works perfect for it. That is the only track that stounds out for me. That stays in my head after I stopped listening. I'd give it a 3/10. Reason for Editing: oopsie
