I've always been an immense fan of Neil's works, but it wasn't until this past month or so that I finally ran into the Sandman series. I'd heard of it, of course, but I had never gotten around to reading it. I've read four of the volumes so far, and I am definitely addicted now. I also now understand why this series is Neil's trademark. I've had to read them a bit out of order since it appears that I'm not the only patron of the local library who is in love with the series, and A Game of You just might be my favourite work of Neil's to date.
Anyway, to get back to the poll question, I simply adore Death. Her existence in the Sandman comics has made me much less apprehensive of the concept of death. If she were the one to take me to the afterlife, I would probably have no fear at all. I love her somewhat whimsical and eccentric personality, and her style is amazing too. "The Sound of Her Wings" was my favourite of the stories in Preludes and Nocturnes simply because it had her in it. One of my favourite lines of hers is in "Facade", when she is talking to Element Girl, and talks about how she was here waiting when the first living thing was created, and how she will be here after all the living things in the universe are gone, waiting to stack the chairs and turn off the lights as she leaves.

i love Death and Delirium, but Dream has to be my favorite... he's so twisted and mysterious. i discovered the Sandman comics about 6 years ago (mostly caus of Tori) and fell in love with it right the way. that sucks they only translated the first part of the series in french and not the whole thing though. Neil's work is amazing. everyone should read Neverwhere and Stardust, they're truly awesome! can't wait for his new book, Anansi Boys ...
