I really enjoyed Vanilla Sky, tho since it's a Tom Cruise film you may not. ;D It was better than i expected it to be anyhow. The first Saw is a decent little thriller. Hardly the best film in your list, but far from the worst. Serenity is a film i'm so utterly biased towards it's almost wrong for me to be recommending it to anyone. But i don't care - IT'S GREAT! The only problem is that if you haven't seen the Firefly tv show from which it's based then you'll miss out on quite a few things... Watching it by myself as a longtime Firefly fan it was an increadable experience, but watching it with a fresh set of eyes with Sarah (who only ever saw one episode of the tv series, and even then didn't really take much interest) really showed up some weaknesses in it as a stand-alone film. I found myself constantly explaining why characters were talking the way they did, doing the things they did, and pointing out very small things which actually meant a lot but were easy to miss if you weren't already familiar with the universe it's set in. My advice is just hold off til you see the tv series first if that's ever likely to happen (it only ran for 14 episodes, so doesn't take much commitment), if it's not ever likely to happen then hurry up and watch Serenity anyway since it's still a damn fine sci-fi action film all on it's own. Besides, nobody can write and film great in-character jokes as well as Joss Whedon - it's worth it just for that alone! Eternal Sunshine is supposed to be fantastic. I have the special edition sat right next to me now (with script book included), and am just waiting for my new tv before i finally watch it - my current tv is really playing up bad, and i don't want to be stressing about my tv rather than relaxing into the film. And surely you've already seen the Indiana Jones films...? Fantastic films which are always worth watching, but they have been on tv a few million times. I found The Butterfly Effect okay, but slightly ruined by MTV-Boy being a completely awful actor. And finally (no joke intended)... Are you sure it's Final Fantasy VII? That's a videogame. There is a "Final Fantasy" movie which is all CGI - very impressive graphically for it's time, tho the story is very slow and could have been far better. I believe there's also an animé series based around the games. The only "Final Fantasy VII" movie i know of isn't released outside of Japan so far tho, and is a CGI film that continues the story from the end of the Final Fantasy VII videogame, and as such i'm not sure how easy it'll be to follow without knowledge of the game already. Anyway, you've got a good collection of films there, so enjoy yourself!

ROFL Teppic, half way through your paragraph about Serenity I got a text from a mate saying he'll drop me his firefly DVDs! (I saw a few yesterday and asked him for a lend), great minds think alike I suppose! Now that, folks, is synchronicity. You only ever saw the re-released versions of Star Wars?! That's outright cruelty! The originals are actually better films (even if you can tell that the crowd at the end of 'A New Hope' is made up of cardboard cutouts). Lucas deserves an royal arsekicking for refusing to allow the original cuts to be released on dvd... Stoopid little geek trying to re-write history! And the Final Fantasy VII movie is the new one that tells the story of what happens after the game. Advent Children. I didn't know it was released outside of Japan yet... There are loads of people in the UK waiting for it's release, although i haven't heard anyone who's actually seen it say they enjoyed it yet. If you haven't spent the 25-45 hours it takes to play through the game it'll be interesting to see if you can work out what the hell is going on. ;D

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind Serenity Best two films of the last couple of years I slightly disagree with Teppic on Serenity - I think it stands up quite well as a stand-alone film. There's a lot of characterization and plot nuances you may not get if you haven't seen Firefly, but it's still eminently comprehensible and enjoyable. The plot does catapult along at a staggering rate at times though - I think a few chatty development scenes early on in the film would have been good (and give opportunity for a few more signature one-liners ;D ) [/geek mode]

How can you have Saw II? You can only watch it in the cinema, even in the States. Or do you have an illegal rip on dvd/pc? I don't know all the movies in your list, but personally I think Hero is a really crappy aweful boring movie (I tried to watch it for 10 minutes, scipped it some forward, but it still was horrible and stupid!). But the Indiana Jones movies are great, just like Eternal Sunshine, Saw, Spartan, Butterfly Effect (ok, I still haven't seen that one yet myself, but still...) and Vanilla Sky. And is March Of The Penguins already available on dvd? Really want to see that ducu-movie!

Just saw the rest of Firefly and Serenity, deadly series/film. Nice sig Teppic btw YAY! Someone who finally gets it! If you saw the US dvd did you watch the deleted scenes? I swear out of 15mins of deleted footage there was only one scene which Joss Whedon did right to leave out - the extra scenes would have made it an even better movie (tho Joss has said the final cut is exactly how he wanted it so don't expect a director's cut with any of the deleted stuff added in, and since it's his film who am i to argue ). He's already talking about making a sequel tho if there's enough demand (Serenity didn't do so well in the cinema, so he's said it'll most likely depend upon dvd sales to get one green-lit by the film company)... Once he's done with Wonder Woman (if it was anybody other than Joss Whedon i'd be rolling my eyes about now ;D). And remember: Fruity Oaty Bars, make a man out of a mouse. Fruity Oaty Bars, make you bust out of your blouse.

Couldn't resist adding my (late) thoughts to your list:
21 Grams - cracking drama, good performances Constantine - average thriller/horror with Keanu doing his usual impression of an Ikea storage unit. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - a bit bonkers but engrossing and Kate Winslet is superb. Hero - looks amazing but is slow moving and about 45 mins too long. Kung Fu Hustle - hilarious! Man On Fire - Great thriller and Dakota Fanning steals the acting honours. Saw - One of the best and most inventive horror films in years. Saw 2 - Almost as good as the original. Serenity - overrated....some good one-liners though. Vanilla Sky - oh dear....just not very good. At all.
