I'd actually heard some really good things about this film. The director's previous film was okay, and i heard this one was better...

*cough* I loved it! sorry but this movie is a piece of crap. complete waste of time. tarantino deserves a good spanking! Well, as I'm sure you know, this ISN'T a Quentin Tarantino movie - all he did as a favour to his buddy Eli Roth (who DID direct it) was to endorse the film and, in turn, Roth gave him an Executive Producer credit. All very much back-slapping stuff and I'm pretty sure that if Tarantino HAD made it, then the results would have been a lot different. But back to the movie itself....Roth had been hyping up 'Hostel' months before it opened promising all kinds of mayhem on screen and suggesting that some boundaries may be crossed for the first time. Well, it was definitely horrific in places but Roth trained his camera AWAY from the promised carnage at times and left it to our imaginations. Sometimes that can be so much more scary than actually seeing the horror itself. As for "no plot" - well, how many horror movies have much of a plot anyway? Actually, there were several sub-plots going on such as the roles of the prostitutes that lured the guys to the town in the first place and the street kids who turned nasty unless they were given sweets. Roth had already proved with 'Cabin Fever' that he was a massive fan of the horror genre and while 'Hostel' was no classic and paid homage to other movies such as 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre', it was certainly a very good chiller and stayed with me long after the final credits rolled. A question for Mina & Red Velvet....you must have had some idea from the reviews, trailers, posters what this film was about....so why go?

Ooo the same director of 'Cabin Fever'? I loved that movie. I never heard of 'Hostel' before, so I just watched a trailer... Errr... eep. Dunno if I wanna watch it. If there's a scene which involves anything 'nails', I do not want to watch it. I can not stand stuff involving nails. AAAAAAAAAAAH. Goes thru me and stays with me forever. I still see the image in my head of Laura (from Twin Peaks) when they pulled stuff from under her nails. UUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHH. My stomach is actually turning again.

@ Jappy
i know this isn't a tarantino movie, thanks. i made research, read a bunch of reviews before actually downloading it. he helped writing and produced it, therefor he deserves a good spanking imo for encouraging such bullshit. then why seeing it? simply caus of bad curiousity. once there's a so-called 'controversial' movie coming out, it's like i NEED to see it - "Requiem for a dream", "Irréversible", "Passion of Christ", "Calvaire", etc... not sure why, if it's to test myself or something. in this case i got very mixed reviews from friends, but i decided to see it anyway. i don't like to judge before seeing what this is about. plus cult japanese director Takashi Miike (HUGE fan) is making a cameo in the film!
about the plot: first part boring as hell, second "gory". i think the main idea is damn good, but it could have been threated differently. was the first part with all the naked chicks/sex neccessary? if you're a guy, i suppose it might interest you - since i'm a girl i thought it was totally pointless. if i wanted to see a bunch of horny guys shagging chicks, i'd watch porn. now the second part. i didn't think the torture scenes were THAT impressive, but again it depends on you own sensibility. apart from the eye thingy (the only scene were i looked away), i didn't feel like puking - it bored me more than anything. if roth *really* wanted to shock/make people sick, he should have made them more original and possibly longer. isn't it supposed to be the place were your wildest fantasies come true? so much possibilities not exploited. i wasn't excepting much from this movie, so can't say i'm disapointed, apart from the lack of imagination. it could have been something, unfortunatly it isn't.
