Just wondering if any of you crazy kids are fans of the TV show The Dead Zone? I bought the first season on DVD months ago on a whim ( it was on sale), and now I can't get enough. The 5th season is supposed to start here in the States this summer ( I unfortunately don't have cable ) and the 4th season is supposed to be on DVD this July. I can't wait. But, I have also heard that after this season it might be cancelled and i am sooooo not happy about that!!!!

is the Dead Zone the show based on the Stephen King book? If so, it was a show that I watched for a while and got really bored with, but I get bored with a lot of tv anyhow. Didn't do too well here tho.

Yeah, it is the show based on the Stephen King book...I'm a huge fan of it and I think Anthony Michael Hall is great (cute too!). I tend to get bored with shows, too, but for some reason I have become practically addicted to this one. I love the whole sci-fi genre, though.

Come on Spacedog, Quantum Leap was a good show, at least IMO! I read the book but never saw the movie. I love Christopher Walken and all but I have always thought that he would be too creepy in that role! But maybe that's just me!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Spacedog! Like the X-Files, for example. Talk about feeling jipped!! The way they ended that series was a HUGE letdown!!

But with the X-Files they very much made up the on-going story arc as they went along. It was very much supposed to be a 'Story of the Week' type show until it got insanely popular. Once they tried going down the arc-plot the show just kind of fell off the rails - still good, at times even excellent, but ultimately confusing in the long term.
The Dead Zone is a great show. The first and second seasons are very good, tho things start to slow down a lot after that, and the last season was obviously suffering from a hugely cut budget (plus they dropped the Jeff Buckley track at the beginning which was an awful idea!). Haven't heard anything about the new series yet - hopefully it's going to have a return to form, because i think another season like the last will kill the show off.
Incidentally, thanks to Sarah's dad's friend i've seen the first 15 episodes of Lost season 2... I can see why a few people complained when the second season started because it takes weeks just to get off the first day or so (feels like it's been made with dvd in mind more than tv to be honest). But the show does give answers to things much better than the X-Files ever did, you just have to be patient. After a few episodes the season really gets moving... I think so long as it doesn't do a Babylon 5 (ie. the tv station threatens to axe the show before the story arc is complete, thereby causing them to rush the end only for it to get picked up for another year after all) it could be that rare thing - an arc based tv show which has a satisfying beginning, middle, and end. It's obviously only a guess, but we'll see.

I'm just getting into Lost again, actually. I wasn't able to watch it much this season once my semester at college started, and it has taken me a few eps to figure out what is happening. I really hope they don't screw this show up! Yeah, during the last 2 seasons of the X-Files the ongoing story arc just got too crazy, although it still had some great moments. I didn't see the last season of The Dead Zone, because I don't have cable and I got into the show by watching the DVDS, & Season 4 comes out in July. I hope Season 5 kicks butt because if not the show will be cancelled & rumor is that it ends in a cliffhanger, so, if that's the case we will never know how the Armageddon storyline ends! That would be a real friggin' bummer!

The one good thing is since it's based upon a book you can always read that to find out how it was going to end. Oh, but don't take the shortcut to finding out the ending via the film version as it had some things changed (so i'm told by someone who read it), and the ending is quite different.

I have read the book, but you never know, they might change the ending, just to make it happier and not to end it with Johnny on the run after killing Stilson...that is how it ends, right? I haven't read the book in a while!

Sorry, somehow in my head i thought you'd said you'd seen the movie and not read the book... Guess writing huge Silent Hill movie reviews aren't so good for my memory! ;D
Well everything i heard has been along the lines of them wanting to keep it as close to the book as possible - ending and all. I guess it's always possible for them to put a different spin on things however, whilst still resulting in a near identical ending. As i said, i haven't read the book myself, and only saw the movie. I hope they do get to give it a proper ending, cos i'm so sick of following shows for years only for them to be canceled on a cliff-hanger (hello Carnivále, i'm looking at you). It wouldn't surprise me to see them do a quick one off special to finish the story if it did get canceled.

(hello Carnivále, i'm looking at you). Did you watch this? My gawd, what a strange, but very intriguing show. I only caught about half the episodes but thought it was very creatively, and oddly, put together

Yeh, i was a huge Carnivále fan. I love anything that goes for the mind-fuck tactic. ;D I even got my gran of all people into watching it! It was really cool as we'd end up discussing things that had happened, how they related to past events, and they may relate to the future. And it did such a wonderful job of capturing it's time-period, despite being so fantasy based. A lot of people said the 2nd season was a bit of a mess, but i loved it just as much as the first. The only thing that annoys me is that the show's creators tried to tell people it had "reached it's natural conclusion" when it clearly hadn't. I mean it ended on a cliff-hanger of huge proportions for crying out loud! I did have a theory about how it ended which would at least go some way to explaining how they could think of it as a natural conclusion, but even so it was still left unfinished. I believe there are plans to make a comic/graphic novel at some point to help finish the story. Whether those plans ever happen is something else tho.
