Let's get the "Daniel Craig is a shit choice for Bond" thing out of the way first. He isn't. He's bloody good and I was wrong to sniff huffily when he was announced as the new 007.
Casino Royale ranks up there with the best Bond movies of the series. Everything is in place: stunts, bad guys with scars and a great score (by David Arnold again...good work there, although the title song by Chris Cornell is one of the worst Bond themes ever).
Craig plays Bond with a harder edge, rather like Timothy Dalton did and he more than looks the part. Even the Bond quips are delivered with menace instead of a smirk.
Definitely a return to form for the Bond series after the incredibly far-fetched Die Another Day.

Kewl... haven't paid much attention to this one, I usually do... I'm just a sucker when it comes to Bond, I loved to watch it as a kid and I still get sentimental when I see one of the oldies. ;D My number one bond, will always be Sean Connery. He's so damn sexy... still is.

Funny after all the fanboys ranted and raved for the entire production of the film about how badly EON was screwing the franchise up, and how Daniel Craig was the worst possible choice for Bond (tho i did half understand the criticism of him looking more like a bad guy, although even then that was kind of the whole point in him being cast), that now people have seen the finished movie suddenly everyone's raving about how great it is. ;D I've never been a super-huge Bond fan, probably simply due to over-exposure during my childhood. This is a rare case where i would be tempted to go to a cinema to see a Bond movie rather than wait for it being on tv. The only slightly worrying thing is this isn't the first time i've heard comparisons to Timothy Dalton, and my opinion of Timothy Dalton goes along the lines of 'Worst Bond EVARRR!!!' Oh, and can they please stop showing Craig's 60's style swimming trunks hidden "package" on tv at every bloody chance? Pleeease? This does not make me wish to go and see it again, blown up to double decker bus size on a giant cinema screen, thankyouverymuch. :sus:

I saw my Casino Royale here in Finland yesterday,
and it rocked my socks off! I have never seen a better James Bond movie, and believe me girls and boys, I have seen them all, countless of times!
James Bond was my first screen love ever and I got totally addicted to mr. Bond while still a young girl (a bit too young to see all the bad guys get shot, huh) and I know my Jameses and Bonds inside out. I have been tremendously sad for so many years while seeing the Bond movies suck ass with Brosnan and the insane script makers. The Brosnan period was the blackest one in all James Bond history and I could only hope it to get better some day (Roger Moore being my all time favourite Bond).
While first hearing the news that mr. Craig had been casted into the role I was not quite sure what to think, but I knew that he was one hell of an actor and a definite pro, and I had always liked his work on screen before. My hopes weren't high yet but I knew that Casino Royale could be great if the script people could pull it off this time.
I waited painfully the last few weeks before Bond hit the theathers here (a week later than the world premiere) and I even dragged my boyfriend to see it (NOT a recommended choice I tell you, men usually don't like it when they feel threathen by an invincible ultra manly screen character and watching their girl's eyes like drop out) and when the initial credits started to roll on the screen with that overcool card deck animation I was already in love and I knew it couldn't be just good, it had to be even better. And in the end I nearly danced out of the theatre.
Everything was on it's right place, all the cast and characters were amazing and not a shit thing from the script writers this time. Craig was fucking stunning! James Bond's character is all about the balls and Daniel had them, my God the Bondish attitude in which he pulled the scenes through! Such was the Bond spark in him that I couldn't get my eyes off him, truly an enigmatic performance and I must say, for the first time in screen I really saw Bond brought really alive, he played James like never before and made him so flesh and feeling, with such intense pain and action. Craig is a really, really good actor and he finally did Bond character the favor it had lacked for 20 years. He brought Bond back into a living, credible being.
I have always loved Judi Dench's M and I was so happy to see her yet again, she is definitely the best M there has ever been, making her more than just an upper hand side kick. Eva Green is an actress whose career I have kept closely in check and finally I was convinced that she can really act as well as to be probably one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in this life. She did Vesper Lynd justice, I adored the combination of strenght and vulnerability that she gave to Vesper. So long to the weak and stupid "Bond girls". Even the baddies were good in this Bond, Mikkelsen was a fab, never seen him on screen before but he definitely knew how not to be that typical two dimensional psychopath criminal that Bond has previously dealed with. For him one could actually feel something else than just count seconds to the point where Bond just shoots them to death.. I really enjoyed having a "real", even weak and tearful, baddie for a start.
Most of all I really loved that Bond was yet again more like a real character, more in contact with the real world surrounding us. A man playing more with his wits and fists rather than supernatural gadgets and toy girls. The whole movie had the feeling of reality in it, it made me feel like I could taste the blood and the sweat on my tongue. I loved Casino Royale. It truly is the best James Bond movie, in all rates. Highly entertaining!
and when it comes to mr. Craig, he is now officially the only real Bond to me. Never before no-one, not even Moore, made Bond so alive. Craig gave him heart, rage, coolness, balls and my God with that additude that shined from him it really did not matter less that his hair was blond and that he wasn't 185cm tall. He made Bond's idea a reality; by truly understanding the nature of things (as he did the character of Bond) the outer details will become like air, and the whole buch of Bond actors before (Brosnan, Dalton, and to me, even Connery) just had the looks, not the balls. Bond is meant to be raw, enigmatic, sexy and fierce. The ultimate testosterone man machine. And Craig was, oh yes he was.
I cannot wait to see Casino Royale again. I have waited 24 years it seems to see the perfect Bond and now I got it.
Thank you mr. Craig and the crew, you wet my pants.
- Jaana
