I was going through the i-tunes section for Celebrity Playlists, in which famous folks (and mildly famous folks) listed off maybe 10 or less of their current/old favorites, and songs they were digging at that particular moment, and gave a brief description of why they like each song so much. It made me eager to make my own, just for the heck of it! And I wanted to find out what your not-so-celebrity playlists were.
So here goes...
1. Amanda Palmer - Astronaut (A Short History Of Nearly Nothing): This song gets my heart pumping, and I just want to get up move! The Lyrics and Strings are perfection and heartbreaking.
2. Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You: This song brings back memories from when I was little, bouncing wildly on my father's knee as the music would pick up. This is just such a thrilling track, and one of Zeppelin's best. Great to scream your lungs out to, too .
3. John Lennon - Bring On the Lucie (Freda Peeple): Heard this one for the first time on the soundtrack of Children Of Men. This is classic John. All of his politics, passions, and wonderful personality traits wrapped into one song.
4. Beyonce - Halo: I'm sure some will think it's silly to say so, but I think this is a gorgeous song. There are enough artists out there with good voices, but few who are as mainstream as B allow for their range to show through on a single track. She hits just about every note here, from the lowest to the highest.
5. The Cure - Close to Me: Damn, this is such a fun track.
6. Radiohead - Reckoner: I just heard this one on the radio recently, and knew right away who it was. This song has such a great vibe. Another classic for Radiohead!
7. Nina Simon - Blackbird: Rips my heart out. It's the kind of song that is so quiet and understated, but demands your attention all the same.
8. Frédéric Chopin - Nocturne in C# minor: Played on the piano, this is absolutely gorgeous.
9. Tori Amos + Robert Plant - Down By The Seaside: The original was good, but Tori made it great. When Robert goes into the verse "Can you still do the twist..." oh man, I could listen to it on repeat for hours! This is such a sexy track, and I'm so glad that Plant worked with Tori on it. (Hence the Signature!)
10. Yoko Ono - Death Of Samantha: Another heartbreaking one. Especially in the context of John Lennon's death. Now, whether or not the song was written with that intention, I don't know for sure. But it's hard not to relate the two.
Now I want to hear yours!!
