Saw Episode III last night at midnight. Without giving any spoilers for those who haven't seen it, I'll just say that it was really quite good, though probably not the equal of any of the original films. Anyone else seen it yet? Comments, criticisms ? Don't make me feel like I'm the biggest dork on the forum.

saw it on wednesday afternoon - i wanted to go at midnight but it got so insane here (over 1.000 people) i didn't get any tickets i absolutely loved it, although the first part was a bit blah imo (great battles/special effects though) but the second part is simply FANTASTIC - so intense and dramatic. the final is just breathtaking... i nearly cried my eyes out. this one is definitely the best of the new episodes. i can't wait to see it again this week-end (obviously i'm a big dork as well!! lol)

I was begining to worry I was the only nerd here.
I completely agree about the 1st half/2nd half break down. But yes, once it got moving it was really pretty powerful. Ewan McGregor was really great, and I thought that the last 20 minutes or so really tied it together with A New Hope. The only scene in the second half that really bugged me was the birth of the twins - I just didn't understand why they had to be delivered by silly looking robots or why Yoda and Bail Organa had to be standing around watching through the glass. I mean, give the girl some privacy...

I was going to go at midnight. They opened a new movie theater in my town and the grand opening was at 12:01 and they were playing Star wars Episode III so I was going to go but no money.

I haven't even seen 'Attack of the Clones' yet. I think I'm still too traumatized by Jar Jar Binks (or however the fuck you spell that)!

IOMG the dialogue is soooo bad its hilarious!! "and now we must prove our strenghts with our light sabers" or something like that Yes, but the star wars dialogue has always been horrendous. That in attack of the clones is actually considerably better edited and less incoherent than it is in A New Hope. Not that the movie over all is nearly as good, but still...

Just saw it today. Sucked. Not without it's moments, but over all i'd say it was worse than AotC (tho better than TPM - but then what isn't?!). What strikes me the most is how pointless these prequels have been. All they serve to do is tell a story that everyone already knew well enough from what you were told in the original trilogy, and ruin the far superior original trilogy for those young enough to be watching the prequels first. Plus the acting was so bad that i'd have rather they'd just made the prequels as a full CGI film (the CGI characters actually express more than the humans... ), and given that so much of the film is done in CGI anyway it would have probably been both easier and cheaper to have made it that way anyhow. I also think a full CGI prequel would have been given an easier time by both the fans and the critics. And anyway, if George had to make another trilogy, i think a sequel would have been much more interesting (Lucas himself has always said he had the story for a sequel trilogy already written). The actors of the original characters were all of a good age to go back to and show you how they were all getting along years into the future from where Return of the Jedi left off, and having superior special effects wouldn't have felt as jarring as it does in the prequels. Most importantly of all, the story would have been something new, not just an elaborate retelling of a story we'd already been told. And that's my thoughts on the whole prequel situation, as someone who went into the whole thing open minded and hopeful. Now it's several years later and three films done and dusted, and all i came away from the cinema feeling was that it was a lot of time wasted. It's not so much that they were outright awful films, just that they were pointless.
