i'm a bit mad about the new Robbie Williams video (Tripping) ... Why? Please tell us rather than make me have to watch it to know why it's so shit.

It's a funny thing... not so long ago a few of us (Sid, Smurph, Nabs & I) were at Wolverhampton Civic Hall to see Carina and James Blunt was her first support act and no one had heard of him or payed much attention (most people were at the bar). How things change eh?

Oh, and i quite like James Blunt. I like the way that if you only heard the tv/radio edits of his songs you'd think he was just a slick, well produced singer-songwriter, but actually his songs sometimes hold nice little unexpected twists... A song will sound all happy and/or soppy, and then suddenly if you pay attention you hear these bitter little comments. And the guy likes to slip in the odd bit of swearing if you hear the original album versions of the songs (the first tune that made me take any notice of him is a good example, where halfway through the song 'Wisemen' he starts singing about "You pernickety little bastards" - first time i heard it i was left going "'hold on, that wasn't in the tune when i saw the video!" ;D). In fact the only thing that does annoy me a bit is that at the end of the chorus of 'Tears and Rain' he sounds like he's about to break into Robbie Williams' 'Angels'... Which is never a good thing. Don't get me wrong, he's hardly Damien Rice! But on his own terms he's not bad by any means. I'd rather see him doing well in the charts than 99% of the usual crap that's always in there.

How things change eh? To be honest, I thought he sounded fairly good from the bit of his set I caught from half way back of the hall. 'You're Beautiful' really gets on my nerves now but that may be just because it's so overplayed and I've never heard it from beginning to end - just the bloody chorus looping around and around in the background of something or other on tv/radio. Vaguely interesting fact no.2 : This same night I was stood next to Robert Plant and his son in the crowd. Apparently they were there to see the 2nd support act; Damien Dempsey.

He was mingling with everyone at the end of the night and chatting to [and sharing a pack of jaffackes with] Carina and her family for quite a while. Thing is... I bottled it ;D

I listened to James Blunt's cd at Andrews and I liked it... it's one of these artists that either you love their voice or you don't. I will get his album eventually I think.

Have you actually listened to the entire cd, Hanna? Polished yeah... it's produced, but it's NOT shallow.
