This first book (like the film) is hilarious, but it's basically a string of jokes - there's not much of a big story arc (it's more like a real diary I suppose - in fact in some ways the film actually put extra story in) (mostly stolen from Pride and Prejudice lol.) The second book is a bit darker and less funny but has a proper story. Some of the writing is really beautiful too. The second film is just dreadful though - it's like a really, really bad copy of the first film Edit: I remeber seeing 'Empire Records' (film) on the TV a while back...it was only at the credits that I realised Renee Zellweger was in it - she looks totally different, disturbingly thin.

The first movie's great. The second one sucked big time in my opinion, though. I've always rather liked the second book and it's completely ruined it for me

Well, the only thing worse than having a cretin as President...is having his poodle as Prime Minister!

It's supply and demand folks. A lot of the oil producing countries are pumping as fast as they can now, but world demand for oil is ramping up spectacularly (for a start the Chinese have just discovered cars, and there's 1.3 billion of them ) (the markets a bit jittery with all the terrorist activity in the Middle East too.) Things are going to go majorly weird over the next few years. Actually, I think you're quite lucky in the states. Gas/Petrol is heavily taxed in Europe, particularly in Britain. I may have worked this out wrong...but...Britains pay almost £1 for a litre. Now, assuming $1.80=£1 and 3.8 litres = 1 American Gallon (there are numerous different types of gallon), then I reckon the british are paying equivalent to $6.80 for a Gallon, whereas I believe it's $2.80 or something in the U.S. I spent £45 filling up my car, which is like $80, and I don't have a particularly interesting car. I may be talking bollocks though, I was never very good at adding up (comes from doing a maths degree ;D). The difference is mostly tax, though. Anyway, I don't think we seriously need to worry until the U.S. and U.K. start invading oil-rich countries for clearly made up reasons... DOH!

Petrol prices are high in Britain too. I almost posted a couple of days ago to say I'd managed to put £45 worth of petrol in my car The U.S. may be particularly bad at the moment due to Katrina, but it's a world problem, and it isn't going to go away.

She's frequently referred to as 'Amy Winelake' in Britain ;D
Amy is a completely bizarre person who may not be to everybodies taste, but her music is quite good, imho

It's definetly the best festival line-up I've ever seen.
(The really weird one is Jesus and Mary Chain - they split up 8 years ago, and they just appeared on the line-up totally without warning. Us Brit serious music fans are just burbling in shock...)

Looks very much like Bjork's gonna play Glastonbury festival this year.
(a piece of news that, in my world, rates as slightly more important than the second coming of Jesus...)

I prefer standing up at gigs, but then I have the advantage of being 6' 1 I definetly respond to music in a physical way. I don't like being constrained.

I take it you're sitting Rasp/Teppic. I assume it's standing downstairs and sitting upstairs. I may be wrong.
