mmm, i rather hear her than see her. she was pretty, but now she is a silicon-botox-monster. To paraphrase Obi-wan: She's more machine than woman now, twisted and evil.

I saw Chan two years ago in Florence.
It was completely and totally nuts. I had no idea what to expect - she started and stopped songs about 12 times, chatted incoherently, and kept getting mad at her guitarist because she thought he wasn't turned up loud enough. It was quite an experience.
So, yes, hopefully it will be better than the last time you saw her too...

Any other Joanna Newsom fans here?
I just find her so amazing. I haven't listened to an album as often as I listen to "Milk-Eyed Mender" in quite a while. And she's incredible live as well.

As if you needed another reason, pitchfork has also given the new album a score of 9.0.
Check it out.

The DFA records remix of Deceptacon is even better than the album version.

Dirty Three are really great. Warren Ellis, the violin player, also plays with Nick Cave and the Badseeds. He's really good. I saw them play in Detroit, maybe five years ago.

the new sleater kinney album. It's excellent. Sounds like a cross between "Call the Doctor" and "Exile on Mainstreet".

yes, screaming people at Tori shows can be really obnoxious - I have a hard time understanding how someone could not realize that they are taking away from the enjoyment of the people around them when they do something like that.

I guess Tori could have done it better. But it's nice though. Well, I suppose...but for adapting a disco song to piano and vocal in less than 24 hours, I think she did pretty damn well.

suzanne vega - the queen and the soldier
I saw her play this live once - she asked the audience if they wanted to hear a short, happy song or a long, sad one. By the result you can guess what we chose.
