Who's your favorite band from the 80's? I think Duran Duran is the best band from the 80's. Anyone else agree? Oh, by the way, do you guys know they're releasing a DVD from Eagle Rock Ent's classic album series?! The DVD will showcase the "Rio" album. I'm so excited, because "Rio" is my favorite album from them! The DVD will be released Nov. 4th! Here's a clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nA7cAT5Qbw

Wow!..The Cocteau Twins..i remember really liking them!...But i remember listening to them in the 90s...But anyway...i'm with eightiesbabe80...I love Duran Duran..they had such contrasting songs..like "Wild Boys" and "Come Undone"...but my fave is "Save a Prayer"...I think that would be an awesome Tori cover...like on the harpsichord or something. But there were ssooo many great songs in the 80s. My friends tease me because i like New Edition so much...But I love the rock n roll too like Great White and Tesla...I don't think i could choose one band...but Duran Duran is a great choice...because they had their own sound no matter how they shifted their style...and great songs. You don't hear that much these days.

Some bands...like "The Cure".."Metallica"..and RHCP..i don't think of as "80s" bands...although thinking about it that is where they made their mark. Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" will always be one of my fave records..And anything by The Cure. I think Hall and Oates doesn't get enough respect; they had some great songs..and a unique sound. "Out Of Touch" popped on the other day..and i cranked it up..great song!

Here are some of my Favorites: Queen; Pink Floyd; Kansas; Steve Miller Band; Alan Parson's Project; REM; Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers; The Police; Y KANT TORI READ; 38 Special; Sting; U-2; Van Halen; Yes; ZZ Top; Twisted Sister; Fleetwood Mac; INXS; Bon Jovi; Duran Duran; Aerosmith; Tears For Fears; Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band; Quiet Riot; Boston; The B-52's; Survivor; The Eagles; Heart; The Red Hot Chili Peppers; Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; Mike & The Mechanics; TOTO; Air Supply; The Cure; Depeche Mode; Styx; Twisted Sister; Chicago; The Pointer Sisters; Genesis; Electric Light Orchestra; Van Halen; Eurythmics; America; Dire Straights; Berlin; Midnight Oil; Whitesnake; Guns and Roses; Metallica; and Yes. (Although I could certainly have included the Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, etc.. - Since these groups actually started in the 60's and 70's - I decided to leave them out plus, a host of others - who were still very active in the 80's) I'm sure I will think of others that I truly loved and have somehow mistakenly left out. I of course, also eliminated a ton a great singers from the 80's, who did not perform with a Band - since the topic was solely limited to Bands in the 1980's. Out of all of the ones listed, My Absolute Favorite is "PINK FLOYD." Although Pink Floyd were also big in the 70's - they had such a Major Influence in the 80's as well, that I decided to include them in this grouping. Steve B.

For me XTC is definitely an absolute favorite. If you include the album they released as The Dukes of Stratosphere, they released 7 absolutely classic albums that decade. I also really like:
R.E.M. Depeche Mode (although my favorite stuff was in the 90s) Squeeze Cocteau Twins The Cure The Church New Order
Yet others... The Damned Dead Can Dance Echo & The Bunnymen Meat Puppets The Smiths Talk Talk They Might be Giants

Anyone knows the band U2 perhaps? I think they are the greatest band from the 80's, together with Queen.
