Thanks Teppic. I think how you've described Underworld and Van Helsing sounds like they will be pretty much what I'm expecting and that's ok since I'm all for a bit of a silly fantasy/action film now and then. Although... I do prefer if a scriptwriter/director can combine the fun action parts with a strong plot and well developed characters. I've noticed your Batman Begins sig and this is a film I've been really looking forward to seeing as I'm hoping it manages to do the aforementioned. I didn't get around to watching it at the cinema and I've deliberately tried to avoid seeing clips or trailers. Anyway, I think it will be on DVD pretty soon Well I have seen Collateral, I forgot to mention it in my list but I liked it a lot! Last Samurai I hope to watch sometime in the next few weeks. Tom Cruise is actually doing quite a lot of decent films lately. Also seen K-PAX ages ago. I think that was a movie that got very mixed reviews. I enjoyed it myself... though I remember thinking the story was a bit vague Shaun of the Dead? Yep, seen that too! Is this getting annoying yet? On this theme, I finally got around to watching Spaced for the first time. We've been leant the DVD's of the first & second series so I'm just discovering it now. Also catching up on some of Black Books... Btw did anyone watch Love Soup? That new sort of black comedy (I'm talking tv not film now btw)with Tamsin Greig (Also in Shaun of the Dead, Black Books etc). I caught it about a quarter of the way through and I thought it was hilarious in parts. Rough synopsis on IMDB www.imdb.com/title/tt0443390/.

I did see Saw a while ago and I thought it was really good Underworld and Van Helsing got some pretty bad reviews - not that I'm that bothered about film critics but it seemed fairly conistent opinion. Despite this I'd still quite like to watch them. Not just for Kate Beckinsale but I do like a trashy Vampire flick now and then anyway... Watched Lost Boys the other night actually. Never seen it before - I thought it was good fun. My bro's video shop doesn't seem to have Cube or Cypher Might see if I can download them from somewhere instead. Also, I like penguins...

So my brother has started working part time for Apollo - the video rental place. Perk of the job is he gets to take out up to 3 movies a day free of charge I don't quite have the time to watch that many but we are indeed taking as much avantage of this perk as we can! I mentioned The Machinist, I've also recently seen Constantine, Spider-man 2, Memento and Panic Room, and on Friday we rented American Splendour, X-Men 2 and Garden State which I'll watch in the next couple of days. So anyway, as I've now got this opportunity I wondered if some Afterglowers would recommend me some films that I really should see? Sometimes it's like wading through a sea of crap to get to the good ones!

Watched this last night. I really enjoyed it. It's the sort of film that you have to sit and think about after it's ended - just take it all in. I think it's been described as a cross between Memento (which I also saw for the first time recently) and Fight Club and I can sort of agree with that.
Also, I could relate a little to Reznik's insomnia. I'm not quite that bad myself though, fortunately!
So who else has seen this? I'd be quite interested in your perceptions of the ideas and scenes in the movie as so much seems to be open to interpretation...

I dunno, it does look pretty fucking weird though, that's for sure! I think Peter Jackson did a genius job with the Lord Of The Rings films so I'm quite curious about this. Mind you, have you ever seen some of his older movies like 'Bad Taste', 'Braindead' or 'Meet The Feebles'? About as far away from LOTR style as you could get ;D I did see them way before LOTR trilogy hit the cinemas though an when his name was announced as LOTR director I was a bit at the choice!

I haven't even seen 'Attack of the Clones' yet. I think I'm still too traumatized by Jar Jar Binks (or however the fuck you spell that)!

I haven't watched a new movie for a couple of weeks but the last one I saw was The Prestige. Quite different to what I expected but I loved it!
Reason for Editing: typo!

The last newish films I have watched are Children of Men and yesterday, Frida.
I thought Children of Men was really well directed and quite exciting and engrossing though the story could be a bit vague at times and the ending was very much unresolved - though done on purpose I suppose! Good performances though and quite thought provoking.
I had been meaning to watch Frida for a while and then it turned up on TV last night. To be honest I didn't really get to watch it properly because I had some of stuff to do but it looked a good biopic. I liked the surrealist scenes and the humour from what I saw. Will have to sit down and view it again when I have more time.

Does that shirt mean what i think it does? ;D ;D I dunno mate, it's pretty fucking twisted! Nah... if you haven't seen the film I don't think it's something that would immediately come to mind - even with the visual aid Well ok... what do you think it means? Fucking hell, there should be some equivalent of the psychoanalysis ink blot test but with that image instead!

Think of the most pointless, useless thing you could do to waste two hours of your life and go and do that instead. Seriously. Have a wank. For two hours? ;D Now, I may be a single man but I'm not quite that bad yet! ;D But heh ok, point taken. Shit... why do I still have an urge to watch this film ;

I finally saw 'Last Days' last night... ...rant... ;D Heh I actually flicked over to FilmFour this evening to see Kim Gordon acting so was intrigued for a minute (yeah I know she's 50 odd but I still find her quite attractive) and then I worked out what the movie was. I was partly doing something on the computer at the time and because the film had already been on for a while, decided not to bother watching the rest of it. Is it really THAT bad? ;D I'm sort of curious to watch it still (since I was a Nirvana fan) but maybe I should avoid it completely going by your review?! ;D Oh Maja, I saw the Green Mile quite recently also. Great film!
