Do yourself a favour and watch Howl from the start again. Then hurry up and find a copy of Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro. Then everything else Hayao Miyazaki has ever done. If you can get Film Four then they recently showed a lot of Ghibli films, so you should keep an eye on their schedule as they'll surely show them again. Laputa: Castle in the Sky (or simply 'Castle in the Sky' as Film Four's listing strangely had it) is well worth looking out for, but don't watch it too late as it's pretty long. ;D You should check out Silent Hill too now if you still have access to free dvd rentals. My brother still can get free DVD rentals but they've changed the terms so he can only have them one day instead of 3 and if it's a new release he can rent it a couple of days before it's actually available 'in store' but after that he has to wait until it's been on release a month or something until he is allowed to rent it again I can understand it in a way, as it's just to ensure that when people come to rent the new releases they are available and not on rental to all the staff ;D Still it's a bit of a pain in the arse for us. Can't rent out Howl again for a few weeks. Next I'll try to set aside atime to watch it when I'm not half asleep already! Will mention about getting Silent Hill too. What's this... a movie adaptation of a video game that is not actually total crap???! Oh yeah, I do have FilmFour (now that's it free ) and I did spot the Ghibli films being advertised. That's how I got around to seeing Princess Mononoke. I'd love to see some more of this stuff so I will check out your recommendations

Seen quite a few films lately... While I was in hospital I watched a movie called Beyond Borders. Dunno if anyone else has seen this but it stars Angelina Jolie and Clive Owen and is essentially a love story set amongst the backdrop of their lives as aid workers. Owen is doctor working out in warzones - a bit of a maverick with a heart. Jolie is a UN worker who falls for him and leaves her husband and kids (!) every now and then to run off around various highly dangerous refugee zones with him. On paper the plot is a bit silly I suppose and maybe a bit preachy but I have to say I quite liked this film. I found it pretty moving and thought provoking. Also well acted I thought. I heard it got totally panned by the critics so maybe I'm just a bit soft but there ya go! Has anyone else seen this? Friday night I watched Garden State Thought this was a really enjoyable film. No real plot, more one of those exploration of the human condition type things. About people rather than a generic beginning-middle-end story. Does seems a bit directionless at times but the characters and the humour kept my interest. My brother rented out Howl's Moving Castle and we watched that last night. Though I haven't seen much, so far I am a fan of the studio Ghibli stuff (really liked Princess Monoke) and although unfortunately I fell asleep just before the end (we were watching it at about 3am) I was enjoying HMC too. Will have to re-watch the last half hour or so of it again so I can work out what I missed ;D

In other news, we now have FREE Film Four (previously subscription only movie channel) in the UK! and they opened with Lost in Translation so I FINALLY sat down and watched it - and I loved it! Ghost World is on tonight! I've seen it before but I really enjoyed it so looking forward to watching it again!

Good movie... although maybe I'm a bit twisted but the last time I saw The Birds... that bit when the crows are pecking the school children as they are trying to run away.. well it sort of made me crack up laughing! ;D I think I was entirely sober too! That part is supposed to scary isn't it? Not funny? ;D

Got my brother to rent out Walk The Line, Everything Is Illuminated, and Jarhead.
Didn't have time to watch any of them this week! D'oh! Good thing I don't have to pay for them!

Heh I watched the latest Harry Potter - 'Goblet of Fire' yesterday. I know it's trendy to slag off JK Rowling and Harry Potter in general but I really enjoyed it (and I've never been 'trendy' anyway). I also though Prisoner of Azkaban was really good. I've never read the books but I'm still a bit of a kid at heart and I love all this fantasy crap

I last watched Jin-roh it is very very good, very violent and basically just blew me away. Oh I've seen this too. Great anime! Pretty affecting too. I went through a phase of watching quite a bit of anime but I haven't seen any at all recently and I need check a lot out. Last thing I saw was Corpse Bride but I actually feel asleep halfway through! I wasn't bored just exhausted I liked what I did see of it and I'll watch the rest this weekend I think. I've also got Serenity and the new Wallace & Gromit

Saw 'Red Eye' the other night. Not bad, watchable enough but pretty formulaic. Bit disappointing really

Got the entire 9 season box set of The X-files for xmas! Just begun watching that (only about 215 episodes altogether!!! ) today. I'm being all chronological and watching it from the pilot onwards. It used to be my favourite series but at some point the BBC just stopped showing it. Then they brought it back but started showing episodes in the wrong order etc so I got fed up and just gave up with it. It's great to have the DVDs now as I don't think I have actually seen anything beyond season 5. Loads to watch for the first time still!

Tilda was at Meltdown (that pic of her with Tori must be from backstage at the South Bank Centre). She was right in front of us when she was (quite nervously) reading her William Blake extract for the show. She has a very good stage voice but I was so close I noticed her hands trembling Anyway, I was trying to work out where I knew her from and it turns out I'd subconsciously remembered her from Vanilla Sky. Funny now I notice her turning up in a few films now. Constantine and Now Chronicles of Narnia, for a start. raspwitch.proboards11.com/index.cgi?board=OriginalSinsualityTour&action=display&thread=1119219495&page=2Scroll down 4 posts on the page of the thread and you'll see Tilda in the line up.

I watched Primer (2004 Sundance Winner) again last night. OMG this is the most complex movie ever made, the forum on the website trying to make sense of it all is huge! (don't read it yet, spoiler city) www.primermovie.com/If you're into science/engineering/sci-fi this movie be the bomb! people will be discussing this one for years to come. Gonna have to check this out!

Thinking of buying the Lost box set cos I keep forgetting to watch when it's on tv and I'm now a bit 'lost' myself since I'm not sure what happened in the last few episodes! Just so you're warned... They split the season across two boxsets here in the UK (you can only get Season One Part 1 so far), but there is going to be a full season one boxset released on the same day as the 2nd part of season one is released. If that makes any sense? In other words, if you want the full 1st season in one boxset just wait a little while - it's not far off now. I've ordered the US (region 1) box set of the whole first season from Amazon.com. It was actually only slightly more expensive (approx £28 including international delivery) than buying the part 1 of the UK box set. I have a multi-region DVD player so it should be no problem. Even failing that, they will still play on my PC.
