Audioslave toured here in April and I fecking missed it as I was seeing Ben Harper/Michael Franti in Byron Bay!! (It was worth it though... ) I've had their album since it was first released but have only just started really listening to it now. It's a very complex album, but what else to do expect from a powerhouse of sound driven by the master, Tom Morello?? I'm glad that Morello and co. are voicing their political views through other channels now, as Chris couldn't sing about these topics with the same verosity as Zach. And I agree, Chris Cornell has only grown more handsome and exotic looking! One of my friends who saw Audioslave said that although they were very convincing on stage she kept thinking that Chris would start belting out the lyrics to Spoonman or something...

So I'm going to a Jeff Buckley tribute night this Friday and although I have major hesitations (as Jeff is just Jeff alone!) I'm quite looking forward to it. The calibre of artists performing on the night is very high and they are all from respected musical backgrounds. It's also in one of my favourite little theatres which should make the atmosphere a tad surreal... I've never been to a tribute night though and don't know if I'll be disappointed or just plain happy that I can see what other's interpretations of Buckley's work will be like. I suppose if none of the songs are 'murdered' I'll leave happy. Have any of you ever been to something like this?

Wowser, this certainly escalated didn't it! I've got no problem with good, honest opinion, in fact where would we be without it ?? I'm glad you enjoy the Dandy's music Rasp, you are not a shallow person at all and you know that. I just wanted to reinforce my love of their music, even if you don't find Courtney attractive (but one wonders how you cant!! JOKE JOKE!! ) Hyp sweetie, hows about a good old kiss and make up session? Your opinions are just as valid and important as anyone elses. Your fire burns bright!!

While I hesitate to enter into a debate based on taste, it's harsh to judge them off one performance.. I saw them in 2001 and was mesmerised by their powerful on stage presence. They are a wild band and have produced some absolutely fabulous music, with Come Down and Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia on high-rotation in my cd player! Courtney's sexy American drawl actually turns me on! He's sex on legs to me!

Just a few things you may find interesting peeps.... Bjork has unveiled plans to release new versions of her four studio albums as well as a series of DVDs. On the album front, the artist has gathered live versions of the songs from the albums "Debut," "Post," "Homogenic," and "Vespertine" and will repackage them as part of a limited edition "Live Box Set." This will be released on the 09th June 03 (Australia). In a message posted in the forum on her official Web site, enigmatic Irish artist Sinead O'Connor has declared that this summer she will seek to discard her celebrity. "As of July 2003 I shall be retiring from the music business [in] order to pursue a different career," she writes. The estates of late Doors vocalist Jim Morrison and his wife, Pam Courson, have filed an 11-count trademark-infringement lawsuit against original band members Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger. Rage Against The Machine’s former guitarist Tom Morello has revealed that a live album recorded at the band’s last shows will soon be released. The star now in Audioslave, said the recordings, which were made in 2000 have been ready for release for a while now.

Thanks Vinyl, I really appreciate your passion and where you are coming from on this, even if I don't agree with everything you've said, you certainly have put forth some convictions here! In fact, it's like talking to my father about 'the greats' and what he believes is untouchable! You two would have a great discussion about music! xxx

good music is good music - 'nuff said I totally agree Sid. I hate hype machines and feel that they have usually deterred me from liking (or even giving a first listen to) certain bands as I'm trying to rebel against the masses, but fuck I could be missing out on some damn fine tunes if I let that continue! Luckily in Australia I don't feel like we have a certain channel ramming music down our throats and apart from teen-Top 40 garbage most people have a really diverse taste in music. The White Stripes impress me. They are not riding on the coat tails of publicity, they are the real deal. This is their 4th album and like to play the media against themselves. Read this review of the album, it pretty much sums up what I think: Again The White Stripes have strived to achieve yet another scorcher of an album, Jack and Meg are back with more vintage gear, organs, vocal harmonies, and loads more bass lines…..It’s all about guitars, drums, lyrical brilliance and trademark red & white outfits. ‘In The Cold Cold Night’ sung by Meg White is a beautiful number, really petite but sexy vocals with a bluesy background, sends shivers down your spine.
“Elephant’s” content is mixed up well, the way the White’s pull back the pace of the whole album on songs like ‘You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket.’ Remember how big guitars sounded in the 70’s?
Yeah well, there bigger now, with hits like ‘Ball and Biscuit’ tearing through your soul like charging Blues/Rock at it’s finest. I would say this album will definitely be classed as one of their finest yet. Some of my favourite tracks would have to be ‘Little Acorns’, 'Seven Nation Army' & ‘Hypnotize,’ which are awesome songs and explode with The White Stripes signature, which is emblazoned all throughout them..I hope I'm not coming off all defensive, but to be able to look forward to new albums and live performances by CURRENT artists is such a huge part of my musical discovery process. I saw the Stripes almost 2 years ago and it occurred to me "This is a fucking great band!". So Vinyl, this is really for you when you say: "I mean, why buying stuff from groups that 'sound like' the raw 70's groups if I can buy stuff from the actual raw 70's groups... forget the Strokes, the White Stripes and the Kills... bring me some Stooges! rock on with Patti Smith! the good old Velvet Underground! vive le Glam!!! " I believe mastering the art of big 70's guitars is a hard task, and Jack White has the vision. Viva la ROCK

Oh thanks for that Teppic! Triple J (Oz radio) is featuring "Sleeping with Ghosts" this week and have been playing the odd new Radiohead track that they have also downloaded from the net. I heard "Punch up at a Wedding" (what a title?) and really enjoyed it. A soundscape it is. I'm gonna be good and wait for the release to listen to it! I also want to get Evan Dando's new one "Baby I'm Bored" and Cat Power's "You Are Fee"..... $$$$

Has anyone been listening to new albums/songs lately? I've been hearing interesting things about a two-piece called The Kills (apparently with PJ influence) so I'm going to have a listen to their stuff soon. Also, Elephant by the White Stripes! My fave radio station is featuring this album this week so my ears have been blessed with these awesomely stripped-back sounds, edgy, sproradic beats and a howling voice. I'm very impressed so far with "The hardest button to button" and something about a doctor/medication song? Anyway, if you want to share something, some beauty, something rare or new.... let me know about it! xxx

Here, here furrymuscles - Phillip Ruddock is an absolute dimwit! Personally, Australian 'hip hop' is atrocious aswell... Triple J have been playing a few groups' songs lately and they are driving me up the f*cking wall! Just don't get it.. Australian gangsta rap shite?? The Aussie accent doesn't do the style justice...
