I'm definitely a fan. I've always felt badly that she has become one of the worst victims of the "anyone can be a star" period that happened in the mid 90s. These days, an artist like Fiona would quietly enjoy her devoted following on a little independent label. But in 1996 just about anything could be a massive hit on modern rock radio, which could be cool but also created some weird situations once the record pressing money machine got their hooks in. I can't help but think that the A&R men's search for "the next Criminal" created a bitter, confused young woman. There was a complete misunderstanding as to how to promote the brilliant, subversive follow up (When the Pawn...) and the lost masterpiece (original version of "Extraordinary Machine") was left on the cutting room floor.

It's a pretty significant departure from the prior work, but a great new sound...love it.

^ I like Neutral Milk Hotel too! I heard a rumor that Jeff Magnum was "working on something new" but that rumor comes around every six months it seems. My current favorite song is Stag Field by Rachel Taylor Brown. She is awesome and needs more fans, so go here an listen! cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/rtbrown5-03.m3u

I just finished reading Dandelion Wine, by Ray Bradbury. It's about an eventful, magical summer in a pre-adoloscent boy's life in northern Illinois. I was struck by how lyrical, poetic, and reverent it was, for a writer known mostly for science fiction. At first I was afraid it would be "too wordy" for me and I wouldn't be able to get into it, but I really enjoyed it! ~Lisa My favorite book of all time! I recently read it for the 7th time... Anyway I'm reading Howard Hughes: His Life and Madness

How I Met Your Mother
I normally hate sit-coms, but this is gold. Neil Patrick Harris is awesome on this show...who knew "The Doog" had it in him.

In the Airplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
What a beautiful face I have found in this place That is circling all around the sun What a beautiful dream That could flash on the screen In a blink of an eye and be gone from me Soft and sweet Let me hold it close and keep it here with me
And one day we will die And our ashes will fly From the aeroplane over the sea But for now we are young Let us lay in the sun And count every beautiful thing we can see Love to be In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me
What a curious life We have found here tonight There is music that sounds from the street There are lights in the clouds Anna's ghost all around Hear her voice as it's rolling and ringing through me Soft and sweet How the notes all bend and reach above the trees
Now, how I remember you How I would push my fingers through your mouth To make those muscles move That made your voice so smooth and sweet And now we keep where we don't know All secrets sleep in winter clothes With one you loved so long ago Now he don't even know his name
What a beautiful face I have found in this place That is circling all around the sun And when we meet on a cloud I'll be laughing out loud I'll be laughing with everyone I see Can't believe How strange it is to be anything at all
